CapJack Rangers
Weekly Preview: Rangers get 1 home game in this short week – and it’s the opener for the week. Holidays are over, Rangers (and all of their division) are under .500. But we open with Pittsburgh, can we do them in?
Pittsburgh Spirit @ CapJack Rangers Rangers hit the Garden ice and outshoot the Spirit 13-11 in the 1st and come away trailing 3-2. Hagman scores for Pittsburgh halfway through the 1st – but Gare (PP) and Quennevile score a pair within the next 4 minutes to get CapJack up 2-1. But the Spirit fire back and Chouinard and Pettersson tally to get to the 3-2 score after 1.
But the Rangers come back in the 2nd with goals from Crowder and Shutt to flip the one-goal lead in the Rangers favor, 4-3.
But there are 3 periods to play and the Spirit tie it up with 9 minutes to go when Houle puts one past Bouchard to tie it up. But Risto Siltanen gets the Rangers back up 5-4 when he scores with 2:30 to go. Then it was all Bouchard as he stopped everything cold – including the final minute with the Spirit using the extra attacker – and the Rangers skate to the locker room as 5-4 winners!!
STARS (all CAP)
1. Quenneville 1 goal, 1 assist
2. Siltanen 1 goal, 1 assist
3. Gare 1 goal, 1 assist
Weekly Summary: So we start the week with a home win – and then wait to see how we play on the road for the last 2 games. But 1 for 1 is good!!! Especially against the Spirit
Mackinac Island Moose
Weekly Preview: One home game this week for the Moose, against division rival St. Claire Shores.
Saint Clair Shores Saints @ Mackinac Island Moose Mackinac Island 5, Saint Clair Shores 4

1st period is dominated by the Moose, with a 14-3 SOG advantage and 3 goals. Propp and MacLean at even strength. Dunlop on the power play.

2nd period the Saints turn the tide, out shooting the Moose 15-6, and getting the lone goal of the period, a shortie, by Duguay on a steal and breakaway.

3rd period the Saints quickly cut the lead in half with Duguay getting his 2nd. The Moose stop the bleeding with a response from Dunlop a few minutes later to make it 4-2. The relief is short lived as Wilson answers with another steal and breakaway, and its now 4-3. The Moose are their worst enemy as Barber then gets put in the penalty box, and Dupont makes them pay with a goal just 12 seconds later, tying the game at 4. Its Lysiak that saves the day, getting goal number 5 for the Moose with just under 6 minutes to play. The Moose make that one stand up and escape with the hard fought win.

1st star – Dunlop 2G 3pts
2nd – Duguay 2G
3rd – Propp 1G 2pts

Weekly Summary: The Moose happy to get a division win against the Saints.

Philadelphia Firebirds
Weekly Preview: Philly has one game and its a Sunday Morning game as they take on the upstart New Castle Ducks
New Castle Ducks @ Philadelphia Firebirds 1st- Bobby Clarke and Al Secord set the tone for this game as they square off to start the game. The Firebirds come out flying controlling play as the Ducks didn’t get a shot until 3:57 of the period. But Billy Smith stands on his head and the period ends 0-0. Shots Philly 12 Ducks 2 17 Hits and 20 PIM.
2nd- The Rate starts the scoring as he gets his 18th from Maruk and Langway. But with Secord off the Ducks tie it up on the PP as Walter gets his 23rd from Statsny and Middleton. Terry O’Reilly goes off for 4 minutes for a CC and the Firebirds take the lead as Joey Mullen gets his 20th from Ruff and Sinisalo. Secord again takes a roughing call and the Ducks again tie it up as Middleton gets his 24th from Pederson and Walter. Maruk gets a CC penalty and a 10-minute major for not leaving the ice. The Ducks PP is humming as Pederson puts them up 3-2 with his 26th from Middleton.
Philly outshoots Ducks 10-3 but the Ducks score on EVERY SHOT so much for the 9.5 Herron rating lol
3rd- 19 seconds in Mullen gets his 2nd of the game on a redirected shot from Randy Carlyle. Both teams continue to bang and grind but with 8 minutes left Maruk gets his 30th from Lindstrom and Linseman and the Birds hold on and Herron actually makes some savesPHILLY 4 New Castle 301. Mullen 1G 3PTS

Ohio Legends
Weekly Preview: The Ohio Legends host one game this week, as St. Clair Shores rolls in for a Battle In The Basement of the Adams Division.
Saint Clair Shores Saints @ Ohio Legends Ohio 7, St. Clair Shores 4

In a game that Ohio led throughout, there were two ties and the game never had more than a two goal lead until just 21 seconds remained.

The Legends got a pair of goals from Bernie Federko (2-1-3) and two point nights from Bob Manno (1-1-2) and Blair Chapman (1-1-2) to pick up the win. The Saints were aided by three point nights from Darren Veithc (1-2-3) and Ron Francis (0-3-3).

Gilles Gilbert (6-4-0) picked up the win with a 21 save performance. Doug Keans (1-7-1) absorbed the loss with a 20 save effort, before yielding to Mike Liut (8 saves) with the game still in doubt.

The power play units were the story of the game for both teams. Ohio went four-for-five with the man-advantage, while St. Clair Shores went two-for-five with the extra attacker. The Legends held the edge in shots on goal, 35-25.

Weekly Summary: Ohio won its lone home game of the week and moved three points clear of St. Clair Shores for last in the Adams.
Charlotte Dynamo
Weekly Preview: The surging Dynamo, let by red-hot Glenn Anderson, hosted Pittsburgh in its lone home game of this stretch on December 12.
Pittsburgh Spirit @ Charlotte Dynamo Charlotte gets the first 5 goals from different scorers and cruises to a 5-3 win. The Spirit score its last three goals in the final eight minutes of the game to make the final score close, but never really threatened: the last goal came from Darryl Sittler with 38 seconds remaining. Vincent Tremblay outshines in the nets over Glenn Chico Resch, 40 saves to 26.

Three stars (all from Charlotte):
Dale Hawerchuk 1 G, 2 Pts
Glenn Anderson, 3 Assists
Steve Bozek, 1 G

Weekly Summary: The Dynamo, still in its division basement, pull their season out of the abyss with multiple wins lately to pull to 10-15-4 and are now just 5 points out of the top spot in the Patrick — this despite resting multiple players lately for usage purposes. The team, sparked by Hawerchuk and Anderson, leads the division with 130 goals.
Brooklyn Harbor Rats
Weekly Preview: 3 home games for the Rats this week, 2 in the tight Patrick division
Charlotte Dynamo @ Brooklyn Harbor Rats Bobby Smith scores 6 minutes into the game, then later in the first period he sets up Anton Stastny for a 2-0 Harbor Rats lead after one. But this game is about Greg Millen, who makes 29 saves to preserve a 2-1 win as Charlotte gets the only score late in the 2nd, a shorty from Derek Smith. In this season of goals, goals and goals, it is Millen who has backstopped Brooklyn to the #2 defensive ranking in the league.
CapJack Rangers @ Brooklyn Harbor Rats The Rangers jump out to a 2-1 lead after one on goals by Lucien DeBlois and Terry Martin. Bobby Smith’s 2nd goal of the game evens the score through 2 periods of play. Trottier snaps the tie just 3:53 into the 3rd, but at 10:06, Mark Johnson ties it again. Just 3 minutes later Smith sets up Behn Wilson for the 4-3 Brooklyn lead and that was the final score as the Rats hang on for a second straight one goal win in the Patrick. Paul Reinhart collects 3 assists for Brooklyn.
Philadelphia Firebirds @ Brooklyn Harbor Rats The only team ranked ahead of Brooklyn in defense is Philly, and they are also #1 in the league in offense and have recorded the most wins. This is a big test for the Rats. And thanks mostly to Millen’s net minding, they hold a 2-1 edge after 2 periods of play. With just 1:53 remaining, Marcel Dionne nets his 22nd of the season to even things. With the clock winding down Dave Christian steals a pass and roofs one past Wamsley with :04 seconds on the clock to give Brooklyn their 3rd win of the week!
Weekly Summary: 6 out of a possible 6 points for the Rats, with 2 big divsional wins and another over the league’s best team, you couldn’t ask for a better week out of the holiday break!
