Silk City Whales
WEEKLY PREVIEW: It’s an animal week as the Whales welcome in the Moose and Harbor Rats. The Rats always bring a large contingent of fans to this family matchup while the Moose are one of the top teams in the league, at the top of the Adams Division.
Mackinac Island Moose @ Silk City Whales The Whales come out completely flat for this one, as the Moose owns the play through the first two periods in taking a 2-0 lead. Bobby Carpenter finally puts Silk City on the scoreboard 2 1/2 minutes into the third and then Mark Messier and Larry Murphy score 41 seconds apart with less than six minutes left to give the Whales the lead. Borje Salming adds an empty netter for the Whales nut the Moose don’t wait, as they add a goal with 1:09 left to bring Mackinac Island back to within one. The Whales hang on from there to win 4-3.

Silk City comes out flying in this one and when Anders Kallur scores a short-handed goal 7:45 into the second period the Whales have a 2-0 lead. And that’s when nature reminds us that Whales can’t fly for long, and in this case, get thrown into the gutter by the Rats. Brooklyn scores the next seven goals, including five in the third period to win in a laugher 7-2. Two goals apiece for Brooklyn’s Bobby Smith, Dave Christian, and Bengt Gustafsson

WEEKLY SUMMARY: The Whales split this week’s home games in a disappointing way by coming from behind in the first game to win against the Moose but then falling apart in the second period of the second game against Brooklyn.
Brooklyn Harbor Rats
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Delray and Vermont visit Brooklyn this week.
Delray Alpha @ Brooklyn Harbor Rats Mark Osborne’s 2nd goal of the game, coming with 1:10 left before the second intermission, snaps a 2-2 tie in favor of the Harbor Rats. Mark Johnson makes it a 2 goal lead just 3:15 into the final frame. Good thing because Dino Ciccarelli nets his 2nd goal of the game 4 minutes later to again make this a one-goal game. Moose Dupont gets just his 2nd goal of the season to regain the two-goal lead and ice things for a 5-3 Brooklyn win. Bobby Smith records 4 assists for the Rats.
Ver mont Foresters @ Brooklyn Harbor Rats Harbor Rats don’t show up for this one, recording just 16 shots on net before a late flurry sees them fall short, 4-2 against the Foresters. Hughes put Vermont in front in the first, but Sulliman tied it for Brooklyn midway through the contest. Less than a minute later Jonsson put the visitors back on top and Howatt added a late second-period goal for a 3-1 lead at the second intermission. Stastny got free for a breakaway score early in the 3rd to get the home team within a goal, but it was not to be. Brooklyn could not stay out of the penalty box tonight, whistled for 10 penalties in a chippy contest.

Star 1 – Melanson 27 saves
Star 2 – MacLean
Star 3 – Barber

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Delray goes 0-1 at home for the week.
Charlotte Dynamo
WEEKLY PREVIEW: After a strong and hopeful finish to the first half, four straight losses have dampened Charlotte’s withering playoff hopes entering this last week of play. The team entered the week 12 games under .500 and 12 points out of a playoff spot as it hosted Charlestown.
Charlestown Chiefs @  Charlotte Dynamo Charlotte’s losing streak extended to five games after losing to the Chiefs in a thriller, 7-6. In this latest defeat, Charlotte twice rallied from deficits of 3-1 and 5-3 to tie the score on both occasions. In the waning moments of the game, however, the Chiefs collected goals from Paul Gardner and Guy Chouinard to break a 5-5 tie, then withstood a late goal from Charlotte’s Mike Rogers. Gardner’s goal that put Charlestown ahead 6-5 came on the powerplay with 3:30 left in the game.

Three stars:
1.) Charlestown: Denis Potvin (2 G, 3 Pts)
2.) Charleston: Paul Gardner (2 G, 3 Pts)
3.) Charlotte: Mike Rogers: (2 G, 3 points)

Notables: Charlotte — Defenseman Blake Wesley with 3 assists, Vincent Tremblay 30 saves

WEEKLY SUMMARY: The Dynamo were unable to overcome a Charlestown squad chock full of Hall of Famers and third period Chiefs goals deny Charlotte of even a point.
Mackinac Island Moose
WEEKLY PREVIEW: CapJack and Charlotte visit the Island this week.
CapJack Rangers @ Mackinac Island Moose Moose 2, Rangers 1 – 4 fights and 3 goals in this defensive battle.

1st period – The Moose dominate shooting 15-9 to no avail. The Rangers kill off penalties by Valentine and Trottier, while Giles mixes it up with Dore. More blood than scoring. It ends 0-0

2nd period – This time the combatants are Valentine and Lysiak, a minor skirmish. The Moose finally get their offense production, as Lysiak and Smith (PP) each tally, and it’s 2-0 going to intermission.

3rd period – Early on a real good fight, Kotsopoulos getting a TKO over Park, which earns him 5 plus 10 for fighting. Almost enough to get the showers early. Later on, its Crowder and Watson battle to a draw and 5 minutes each, which overlaps the earlier penalty a couple of minutes. The Moose work hard to preserve the shutout for Meloche, but Siltanen tallies with just 9 seconds to go, after pulling the goalie. Not enough time to get the equalizer, and it ends 2-1 Moose.

1st star – Meloche 35 saves, 1 GA
2nd – Lysiak 1G
3rd – Smith 1G

Charlotte Dynamo @ Mackinac Island Moose Moose 7, Dynamo 2

Teams battle to an even standoff the first 7 minutes, and then the dam bursts with the Moose scoring 5 times in the final 13 minutes of the first. Propp 2, McKechnie, MacLean, and Bonar with his first of the season.

Early in the 2nd Wesley is injured for the duration. The Dynamo scored early and late, the only 2 goals of the period, with Rogers and Hawerchuk getting tallies. Its 5-2 Moose.

The Moose say enough of that s**t and wake up the offense. Propp scores early for his hat-trick. And then Park a little later, to make it 7-2 with 15 minutes to go. After that, its more cheap shots and fights, with Hajt fighting Giles, Bozek fighting Watson, and in the big finale, Renaud and Bonar in a big one, each getting game misconduct penalties.

1st star – Propp 3G
2nd – McKechnie 1G 2pts
3rd – Park 1G 2pts

WEEKLY SUMMARY: After a mediocre 2 weeks, the Moose get back on track with 2 wins and 2 good goalie outings.
New Castle Ducks
WEEKLY PREVIEW: The Ducks host Silk City and Ohio
Silk City Whales @ New Castle Ducks SCW 6 NEW 5

Silk City scores four in the first against a shaky Bunny Larocque. Ducks close to 4-2 including on a shorthanded goal by defenseman Richie Dunn but then the Whales score two more to make it 6-2. The Ducks then mount a furious comeback as Pederson and Pichette score within 32 seconds of each other in the third to make it 6-4. WEEKLY SUMMARY: The Ducks split the two home games. Silk City has now beaten them 2 of 3 this season. New Castle continues to trail Philadelphia for both the Norris Division lead and the league’s best record. With nearly 30 games remaining, division leaders, Mackinac Island and Delray are also battling for the league’s top spot.
Pittsburgh Spirit
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Traded away most of the remnants of the back to back Championship teams… it will be ugly before it gets good again.
Ohio Legends @ Pittsburgh Spirit Pittsburgh 7, Ohio 4.

Hagman HT and Sittler with 2.

Pettersson with 2 goals, Vachon with 25 saves.

Better days will be ahead… oh please let there be better days ahead! 😉
