Early in, their high scoring 2nd line connects as Danny Gare nets number 60, set up by Trottier and Shutt. Then the Rangers get to go on the PP and Cloutier (19) makes the Rats pay – ha, take that, and cuts the score down to 3-2 Brooklyn and that’s where it ends after 2 periods.<\/p>\n 3rd period is pretty static for the 1st 7 minutes and the Trottier breaks through with goal number 46 to tie the game. 1 minute later Kindrachuk steals one and takes it in all alone to put CapJack on top 4-3. And Bouchard – who had the tough opening period made it stick blanking the Rats over much of the final 2 and 1\/2 periods. And that include a final minute of intense extra skater on the ice for Brooklyn.

Quebec, with a 41-22 SOG advantage, kept pouring it on but Dennis Edwards stood tall in the net for Syracuse, going for a shutout. Finally, with 1:24 to go and Tony Esposito pulled from the Quebec City net, Chuck Lefley scored, from O’Reilly and Milbury to make it 2-1 –for Lefley only his second goal of the season and it was HUGE. With the Quebec City fans in a frenzy, Le Blue kept the extra skater on the ice in an effort to tie it. \nOut of nowhere, right winger Pat Hughes scored his first and very likely last hat trick with the Cyclone including two goals in the five-goal Cyclone first period and finishing it off with a wrist shot past Mio with less than two minutes left in the game.
\nThe Chiefs played their butts off trying to make up for Mio’s poor play down 5-1 after the 1st period they scrambled back to make it 5-4 by the end of the 2nd.
\nThe Cyclone stretched the advantage to three goals but Wilf Paiment cut it to a two-goal game with his 2nd of the night with 52 seconds left on the clock.
\nThe Cyclone scored their first two goals on breakaways in the 1st period with Wayne Gretzky deking out Mio to open the scoring on the first shot and then combining with defenceman Dave Maloney for one of those unforgiveable short-handed goals with Charlestown on a two-man advantage.
