Blake Wesley cuts the lead in half for the Dynamo with just 1:32 left in the period, but Bengt Ake Gustafsson scores in the final minute to regain the 2 goal lead for the Harbor Rats at the first intermission.
\nJust 2 minutes into the 2nd, Charlie Simmer again draws Charlotte within a goal but less than 2 minutes later Bobby Smith answers with his 2nd of the game to make it 4-2, Brooklyn. Just past the game’s halfway point, Larry Playfair hits a long-distance blast to make it 5-2 and that would be all the scoring as the Harbor Rats grab a 5-2 win over the Dynamo.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
CapJack Rangers # Brooklyn Harbor Rats<\/span><\/th>\nThese 2 teams are battling for the division lead and it shows as nearly half the game passes with no scoring. But Gustafsson buries a power-play goal to draw first blood for the Harbor Rats and Mike Gartner deflects home Moose Dupont’s blast for a 2-0 lead late in the middle frame before Steve Shutt beats Greg Millen in the final minute of the 2nd. So we head to the final 20 minutes in a one-goal game.
\nJust 1:19 in, Darryl Sutter gets his 10th of the season to regain the 2 goal lead for Brooklyn. Then Chris Valentine nets a power play score for the Rangers to again make it a one-goal game. 1:17 later Sutter sets up Mark Johnson as the Harbor Rats again grab a 2 goal lead and this time, they make it stick, as they hang on for the 5-3 win over Capjack. Greg Millen makes 41 saves for the win.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Gilles Gilbert stopped 28 shots to give the Legends a standings point, while Ron Low turned away 23 to give the ‘Rats their point. Brooklyn outshot Ohio, 31-26, and each team converted a power play in the tie.<\/p>\n

Mackinac Island Moose @ Ohio Legends<\/span><\/th>\nOHIO 5, MACKINAC ISLAND 4<\/p>\n

The Adams-leading Moose surrender John Anderson’s second goal of the night (and 23rd of the season) with 33 seconds remaining to give Ohio three points for the week at home.<\/p>\n

Ohio held a 4-1 edge going into the third, but Blake Dunlop had a goal and an assist to push the Moose into the tie. The Legends went two-for-three on the power play, while Mackinac Island was one-for-four with the man-advantage.<\/p>\n

John Garrett stopped 29 shots for his sixth win, while Gilles Meloche stopped 21 while absorbing his tenth defeat.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Delray Alpha @ Silk City Whales<\/span><\/th>\nThe Alpha come from behing three times in the second half of the game and get an 8-8 tie with the Whales. Silk City had taken a 6-1 lead midway thru the second period, chasing Delray goalie Reggie Lemelin, and looked to be in control. But the high-powered Delray attack came all the back to tie the game at 6 with five minutes left in the game. From there, Silk City took leads of 7-6 and 8-7, only to see the Alpha come back to tie the score, including Dino Ciccarelli’s third goal of the game (and 52 of the season) with “30 remaining.<\/p>\n

With the score 1-1 at the outset of the second period, Charlotte erupts for eight unanswered goals, with the rampage not ending until a Gil Perreault goal with 10:51 left to play puts the Dynamo ahead 9-1. Perreault later notched a hat trick with a goal with 59 seconds remaining. Esposito again was an unsung hero with 39 saves. Patey, Crowder and Rick MacLeish account for the Pittsburgh goals.
