\nAs usual, the Duck’s #1 line of Walter-Pederson-Middleton was lighting things up. Middleton scored twice and added an assist, Walter had a goal and THREE assists and Pederson had a goal and an assist. New Castle outshot CapJack 43-34 and won 46 of 70 faceoffs. \nThe Ducks got off to a good start when Tiger Williams, of all people, scored at the 42-second mark to make it 1-0. The 89ers tied it on a goal by Blaine Stoughton before NEW regained the lead on a goal by who else but Barry Pederson (15). But again NOC came right back as Jim Fox scored with 3 seconds to go in the first period and the teams went to the locker room tied 2-2.
\nIn the second period, Doug Wickenheiser and Steve Payne scored for the 89ers as Doug Soetart turned away 8 NEW shots. 4-2 North Carolina after two.
\nThe Ducks came out flying in the third period and at 4:06 Marc Tardif scored –his 8th of the year–to make it 4-3. Then some five minutes later Barry Pederson did it again – as the Ducks star center – scored his 16th to tie the game. Not to be denied, the 89ers came right back as defenseman Dave Babych scored an unassisted goal to put NOC back on top 5-4. Michel Goulet added another goal to make it 6-4. That goal proved important as Marian Stastny scored with 52 seconds left and the New Castle net empty. With the Ducks fans quacking, New Castle pressed in the final minute only to see Guy Chouinard score into an empty net and quiet the crowd.<\/p>\n THREE STARS:
