\nNobody scores in the opening period – Texas gets off 5 shots. Each team misses on their PP opportunity. On to the 2nd period.
\nRangers seem to want to win this on as Siltanen (PP) and Shutt (last 2 minutes) score for the Rangers and Resch stops 8 more shots and it’s 2-0 CapJack after 2.
\nThe crowd kept chanting for Brahma burgers and by the 3rd period the Texas skaters looked mean and mad and they came out firing. 17 shots in the 3rd (4 more than the rest of the game). They cut the lead to 2-1 when Hughes scored at the 9-minute mark. But the goalies were standing up to the pressure well until Robinson scores for the Rangers with a minute 18 to go and a big 3-1 lead. So of course we won’t see any Texas goalies the rest of the way (probably) and sure enough, Podubny comes in as the extra attacker – and he quickly shoots – only to be denied by Resch. But Resch can’t control it, Ferguson shoots, Action gets his stick on it and deflects it past Resch and into the net with 1 to go and it’s 3-2 CapJack. But the Rangers limit the Brahmas to 1 big chance – and it’s that Podubny guy – he gets it, and takes a wild fling at the net – but what a fling – and it’s going in, but wait, wow, what diving save by Resch – still 35 seconds to go, but the Rangers gain control and keep Resch out of harm’s way for the rest of the game. Rangers hang on for a slim 3-2 win.

Late in the 2nd, the Saints finally score on a Duchesne goal. In the 3rd, Crossman scores his 8th for the Sasquatch. Then, midway through the 3rd, McDougal scores his 2nd. The Saints fall short and lose another one-goal game.<\/p>\n

WEEKLY PREVIEW:<\/span><\/th>\nThe Ohio Legends have just one home game this week, as they welcome the Charlotte Dynamo. This one proves to be more exciting than you would expect from two teams near the bottom of the standings…..<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Charlotte Dynamo @ Ohio Legends<\/span><\/th>\nCHARLOTTE 5, OHIO 4<\/p>\n

This one was great all the way through, but let’s just skip ahead through the first 54 minutes and see that Charlotte leads, 3-1…..<\/p>\n

With six minutes remaining, the Legends get Tony Tanti’s third goal of the year to narrow the deficit to 3-2. Glen Anderson’s second goal of the night (22nd of the year) with 3:08 left, puts the Dynamo back up, 4-2.<\/p>\n

The Legends get goals SIXTEEN seconds apart to tie the game late. Mark Pavelich’s 24th tally with 1:30 remaining gets it close and Glen Currie’s tenth goal with 1:16 left leaves the fans at Legends Arena thinking tie, or possibly win.<\/p>\n

It took just THIRTEEN seconds after that for Gilbert Perrault to notch his twelfth lamplighter with 1:01 to go to end the scoring. The Legends pressure in the last seconds — but there was no more magic to be had on this night.<\/p>\n

Charlie Simmer added a goal and two assists for the winners, while Mike Rogers also had a goal and an assist. Ohio had a goal and an assist from both Mark Pavelich and Bob Gainey. Andy Moog collected the win with 25 saves, while Dan Bouchard absorbed the loss with 24 stops.<\/p>\n

The Dynamo were crafty with the power play, scoring twice in nine chances, while the Legends were shutout in four tries. The shots for the game were deadlocked at 29 apiece.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

WEEKLY SUMMARY:<\/span><\/th>\nThree goals in 29 seconds with under two minutes to go in the game. That’s about par for the 1982-83 MWOTHL season. Another Ohio loss leaves Legends management wondering if there might be another deal or two to make before the trade deadline.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Then, with 29 seconds left Levo (2) scores from the point to tie it 4-4! And that’s where it would end. Sister kissing… gee, I hope there isn’t anymore on the horizon (that’s what we call foreshadowing).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Dallas Drakes @ Pittsburgh Spirit<\/span><\/th>\nDallas comes to town and scores 2:37 into the 1st to make it 1-0, where it would stay until the 3rd period when Crowder (8) scores to tie it… and it would end with another kissing of the sister. Awkward!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Mackinac Island Moose @ Pittsburgh Spirit<\/span><\/th>\nSpirit jump out to a 1-0 lead 5 minutes into the 1st with Paiement (6) putting them up 1-0.<\/p>\n

In the 2nd (don’t call me Reggie) Dunlop (19) ties it at 1-1… and guess what? Yep… that’s how it would end! ANOTHER kissing sister moment brought to you by “The Pittsburgh Spirit are mediocre but might make the playoffs” season motto.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

WEEKLY PREVIEW:<\/span><\/th>\nTwo home games this week for the Ducks as they continue to battle the Chicago Underground for first place.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Portland Sasquatch @ New Castle Ducks<\/span><\/th>\nNCD 5 POR 3<\/p>\n

Billy Smith made 35 saves for the Ducks as Portland outshot the men from New Castle, 38-27 including a 16-5 advantage in the third period. Ducks took a 3-1 lead after one on two goals by Marion Stastny (24,25) and one by Bobby Clarke (19). Portland tied it in the second on goals by Doug Risebrough (14) and Morris Lukowich (13). Ducks regained the lead with two late second period goals. Steve Bozek (8) got what proved to be the game-winner and Barry Pederson (39) got the insurance goal. In the third period, the Ducks had to kill 2 penalties as Portland poured it on – and Smith stood tall in goal to bring home the win for New Castle.<\/p>\n

Brooklyn Harbor Rats @ New Castle Ducks<\/span><\/th>\nNCD 5 BRO 4<\/p>\n

Ducks score five for the second day in a row – and are once again outshot by a wide margin, as Brooklyn had 38 shots to 24 for the Ducks. In the third period, the Harbor Rats outshot New Castle 18-5. This time it was back up goalie Don Edwards, making 34 saves, to steal the win for New Castle.
\nAfter both teams scored one goal in the first, the Ducks took a 2-1 lead when Ryan Walter scored his second of the game and 22nd of the season. Brooklyn then came back to take a 3-2 lead on two consecutive goals by defenseman Kevin McCarthy (11). The Ducks tied it late in the period when the red hot Marian Stastny scored (26) with 21 seconds to go, beating Eddie Mio.
\nBrooklyn took the lead at the 59-second mark of the third period when Mark Johnson (23) beat Edwards. New Castle then rallied to win it – tying the game on a goal by Barry Pederson (40 ) at 2:02 and getting the game-winner at 16:57 as Walter got the hat trick! The Ducks had to kill off 7 minutes of penalties in the third, including a 5 minute major to Bobby Bourne, as Brooklyn pummelled Edwards but could not score.<\/p>\n

WEEKLY SUMMARY:<\/span><\/th>\nNew Castle gets a maximum of four points as they continue to battle with Chicago for first place in the Norris Division. The line of Walter-Pederson-Middleton continues to dominate. Through 49 games, the line has combined for more than 2 goals per game: with a total of 90 goals plus 107 assists. Pederson with 40-41-81 is second in the league in scoring, as he chases Wayne Gretzky for the Art Ross Trophy. The former #1 draft pick is repeating – and even better than his great rookie season<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Charlotte Dynamo<\/span><\/th>\n<\/tr>\n
WEEKLY PREVIEW:<\/span><\/th>\nCharlotte, in last place in the Patrick Division and seemingly having trouble gaining much traction approaching .500 (lots of home losses are offsetting the road wins), hosted Catoctin in its lone home contest this latest week of play.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Catoctin Cardinals @ Charlotte Dynamo<\/span><\/th>\nIn a microcosm of its season, the Dynamo showed signs of competitiveness with a 3-1 lead then collapsed and surrendered three unanswered goals to drop a 4-3 decision at home.<\/p>\n

The Cardinals scored all four of its goals in the second period. Charlotte’s last goal came when Daryl Evans caught the Cardinals off guard with a short-handed goal 3:45 into the second period, but from there, the unheralded Sabres great Bob Sauve was sensational in nets for Catoctin and shut down the Dynamo. He finished with 38 saves — including stopping an astonishing 22 shot barrage in the third period — and deserved a 3-star selection that was not forthcoming.<\/p>\n

Rick Kehoe scored the first two Catoctin goals including an even-strength tally 5:16 into the third period that narrowed the Cardinals deficit at the time 3-2. Subsequent goals from Brian Sutter and Kevin LaVallee later in the second period completed the comeback.<\/p>\n

Notables: For Charlotte, Tony Esposito recorded 36 saves and Dale Hawerchuk had an assist on a Glenn Anderson goal and won 16 of the Dynamo’s 40 face-off wins. 81 shots were fired between both teams, with Catoctin holding the 41-40 edge, yet the third period was scoreless.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

WEEKLY SUMMARY:<\/span><\/th>\nThe Dynamo loses its lone home contest but has show signs of competitiveness all season and is not giving up; the goal at this point is an incremental improvement: exceeding 65 points this season would mark its best showing in its three years of existence and the squad would look to build from there. With 40 points accumulated thus far after 2 road wins this week, and more than 30 games remaining, there’s still some hope.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Mondou puts Chicago back in front but Mark Osborne nets the tying goal with less than a minute left before the first intermission. Bossy comes out and scores his second of the game just 1:23 into the 2nd period, then he completes the hat trick later in the period for all the scoring as Chicago takes a 4-2 win in Brooklyn.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Charlestown Chiefs @ Mackinac Island Moose<\/span><\/th>\nMoose 5, Chiefs 3 – Takes a while for the offenses to get some traction. We are looking at a 0-0 tie late in the 1st when the Moose take advantage of their 3rd power play and Kurri breaks the deadlock. Just a minute later the Chiefs find some mojo and tie it up on a goal from McDonald. On to intermission tied at 1.<\/p>\n

2nd period – 5 more penalties by the teams put the PK units to the test. Moose gets a PP goal from Smyl in the first minute to make it 2-1. After each team kills off 2 penalties each, the period winds down, and just before the final horn, Dunlop is the happy recipient of a nifty pass to the front of the net and scores, making it 3-1 Moose heading to intermission.<\/p>\n

3rd period. After Dunlop gets his 2nd on a delayed penalty\/ 6 on 5, the Moose take advantage of another penalty near the midpoint of the period and Smyl makes it 5-1 with 10 minutes to go, and the locals go to the concession stand for a refill before they shut off the beer taps. Tight even play the next 8 minutes until Holmes takes advantage of a defensive lapse, and cuts the lead to 3. The Ducks pull their goalie with the 6-5 advantage score one more just before the final horn. 5-3 Moose.<\/p>\n

Powerplay was the difference with the Moose 3 of 7, and the Chiefs 0 for 5.<\/p>\n

New Castle Ducks @ Mackinac Island Moose<\/span><\/th>\nDucks 6, Moose 5 – After Napier puts the Moose up 1-0, the Duck takes control and exploits the Moose defense. Barrett evens it up in the middle of the period and the 1st ends tied 1-1.<\/p>\n

2nd period – Middleton scores early and the Ducks ride that lead until late, when Tambellini, promoted to the 2nd line, ties it up at 2. A Propp tripping penalty turns the tables and Hardy scores with just 1 second on the clock. Heading to the 3rd with Ducks up 3-2<\/p>\n

3rd – Middleton likes to start things off apparently, and scores first. Ducks up by 2 now. Smyl answers back a few minutes later on a powerplay caused by Bourne hooking. Lindstrom answers back a minute later, and the Ducks are up 5-3. Moose mix up the lines a bit and it results in 2 goals from Smyl,, Hat trick !!!! Its 5-5 and the rink is rocking. Good tight play down the wire until Ramsay finds an opening and scores with 2 minutes to go. Moose gets the puck, pull the goalie, and hammer on the Ducks for 90 seconds, but no dice. Ducks with an exciting road win.<\/p>\n
