WEEKLY PREVIEW:	Two home games this week as the Rangers are off to a sluggish start (they were last year as well). But this week they face a TOUGH New Castle and a Portland team that is off to the same 2-2 start as CapJack but they are an unknown…..
New Castle Ducks @ CapJack Rangers	This was a very strange game. Rangers start off by showing off their defensive capabilities as they get a 1st-period goal from DeBlois and a 2nd-period goal from Crowder while holding the mighty Ducks scoreless! And it wasn’t for lack of trying as they outshot the Rangers by a 23-16 margin. But the Rangers were tenacious – they blocked shot after shot. Then… The other shoe dropped… Then…..we had to play the 3rd period. 3 minutes into the 3rd and it was suddenly 3-2 mighty Ducks! Walter scores 17 seconds in for crying out loud. A minute later Lindstrom lights it up (PP goal). A minute and a half later Tardif gets his 1st goal of the game – 4 minutes later he gets his 2nd goal and it’s 4-2. Finally, Kaspar gets called for cross-checking and the Rangers have a PP opportunity to get back into the game – but no, Clarke has to score a short-handed goal putting the Ducks up 5-2. Somehow Russell scores for the Rangers with just over 5 to go to cut it to 5-3, and the Rangers felt they had a chance. They pull a flustered Bouchard at the end but it’s New Castle who scores with Stastny getting the empty netter to seal the deal. So the Ducks get 1 PP, 1 SH, 1 EN, and 3 EV goals – all SIX of them in the 3rd period!!!! And they win 6-3. STARS: (all NEW) 1. Tardif 2 goals 2. Clarke 1 goal, 1 assist 3. Lindstrom 1 goal CapJack did have a notable – Crowder got 14 PIM!
Portland Sasquatch @ CapJack Rangers	So how good is this Portland squad? Good enough to be outplayed and yet WIN a game! In what turned out to be a Brodeur vs. Resch contest, Brodeur won it stopping 93.8% of the shots he faced, Resch could only turn back 88.5% as the fewer Portland shots were harder to stop! And again the Rangers PP gives up a goal! Period 1 was a double goose-egg but 3 minutes into the 2nd while the Rangers were enjoying a PP, Preston scores for Portland making it 1-0. Kontos tallies for CapJack with a minute to go and the 2nd period ends 1-1. Then things look up! Shutt scores 34 seconds into the 3rd and CapJack takes a 2-1 lead. Then the Rangers go on defense and do a great job. We’re inside 2 minutes to go, Rangers just kill a PP. Crossman winds up and shoots – Resch blocker save and he freezes it – 1:38 to go. Faceoff – Risebrough kicks it out, Foligno scarfs it up, over to Risebrough he shoots – SCORE! Game tied, 1:34 to go. Teams are headed for the tie – unless… Rangers get it deep in the Portland end and give it up, Sasquatch get it back but a Cloutier check and they cough it up-line changes from both side, Kontos clears to center ice but Ciccarelli gets it, shovels it to Gretzky (did I mention he was visiting here with Portland?) – well, he’s got the puck doing some Gretzky stuff and just when you think he’s about to shoot – he gives it to Rota – Rota shoots – SCORE! 31 seconds left and they score the game-winner!! 2 goals in the final two minutes to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 win! RUBBISH (well it was good for Portland). STARS: (all POR) 1. Risebrough 1 goal 2. Rota 1 goal 3. Preston 1 goal Brodeur did get a notable for 30 saves. Resch has yet to win a game for CapJack.
WEEKLY SUMMARY:	So, we get two home games and flame out in both. Will need to evaluate 3rd-period performances!!

North Carolina 89’ers
WEEKLY PREVIEW:	Carolina, looking for its first win, will welcome Chicago and New Castle to town.
Chicago Underground @ North Carolina 89’ers	All Chicago the first half of the game, with Fuhr being chased after 5 goals in 30 minutes. Lessard is able to shut them down the rest of the way, but it was too late. Fox is able to deflect one in late to avoid the shutout. Charlotte Dynamo @ New Castle Ducks	CHD 4 NEW 3 The Dynamo fall behind 2-0 but rally to win it. After Andre Savard (2) and Marc Tardif (4) scored for the Ducks, Charlotte got on the board with only 13 seconds left in the first period, when their superstar Center Dale Hawerchuk got his 3rd of the season. That goal changed the momentum as the Dynamo tied it in the second period on Crawford’s first of the year. New Castle regained the lead when MWOTHL scoring leader Barry Pederson put his 7th of the season past Tony Esposito – and it was 3-2 Ducks midway through the second period. Once again, Charlotte came back – this time it was Anders Hedberg getting his first, assisted by Hawerchuk and Glenn Anderson. 3-3 going to the locker room after two. Both teams battled in a tense third period and it looked like the game would end in a tie when Hawerchuk did it again – beating Don Edwards – assisted by Anderson and Hedberg – as the Dynamo’s #1 line scored three of their four goals in a stirring, come from behind, 4-3 win.THREE STARS: 1- CHD Hawerchuk 2G 1 A 2- CHD Hedberg 1G 1 A 3- CHD Anderson 3 AEsposito made 30 saves in his first appearance of the year for CHD.
Saint Clair Shores Saints @ New Castle Ducks	NEW 4 SCS 4 A battle between conference rivals – and once again the Ducks give up a late goal – this one resulting in a tie. Trailing 4-3, with the clock counting down, the Saints pulled goalie Mike Liut for the extra skater and Ron Francis took a pass from Andre St. Laurent to score with 1:07 left. Francis’s 3rd of the year beat Battlin’ Bily Smith as the Saints gained a tie. St Clair jumped out to a fast 3-0 lead in the first period on goals by Delorme, Duguay, and Murray. The Ducks then mounted a comeback. Pederson scored his 8th of the year at 17:41 to give the Ducks life as the teams went off at intermission with SCS leading 3-1. In the second period. Rick Middleton scored #3 to make it 3-2 and then the third member of the Ducks #1 line, Ryan Walter, scored his 4th of the year to tie it at 3-3. In the third, Pederson struck again-with his second of the game and 9th of the year as NEW’s #1 line scored for the fourth time tonight. And just when it looked like a 4-3 Ducks win, Francis scored the goal that silenced the sellout crowd at the Duck Pond. SCS outshot NEW 35-22 including 15-4 in the first and 16-6 in the third.THREE STARS: 1- NEW Pederson 2 G 1 A 2- NEWWalter 1 G 2 A 3- SCS Murray 1G 1 ADucks rookie defenseman Kari Eloranta had 5 blocked shots. Billy Smith made 31 saves. Newcomer Tiger Williams made his Ducks debut and fought Chris Nilan, in the third period, resulting in a major and misconduct for 15 PIM for the bruising Williams.
WEEKLY SUMMARY:	After winning two on the road, the Ducks have a disappointing week at home, getting only 1 of 4 possible points – losing one game in the final minute and loosing a lead with 1:03 to go in the other game.

WEEKLY PREVIEW:	One home game this week on the Island, as The Cardinals (1-2-1) with Mark Messier, who has always been a pain in our side, come to visit the Moose (3-0-1) who feature a balanced attack and top-notch goaltending.
Catoctin Cardinals @ Mackinac Island Moose	Moose 5, Cardinals 2 – The first period sees the teams a bit tentative. A Kurri penalty is killed by the Moose followed by a Murphy penalty killed by the Cardinals. This seems to kick things up a bit as Watters and MacLean mix it up and earn 2 minutes each. In the 4 on 4, the Moose find the open ice to their liking and Smyl quickly finds an opening to make it 1-0 ….. The Cardinals reciprocate 30 seconds later, as Flockhart scores to tie it at 1. Things settle down a while until Kehoe finds Meloche napping and zips one in to put the visitors up 2-1 at the end of 1 2nd period the Cardinals control play most of the period, with a 12-6 SOG advantage. Mid period Smail is called for hooking, and the Moose powerplay is up to the challenge, Kurri finds an opening to tie it at 2 goals each. Two minutes later, riding the momentum shift, Dunlop gets open in the middle and pops one in to make it 3-2 Moose. Shortly after that MacLean is called for tripping, but the PK unit is up to the task, stopping a bunch of shots. Period ends 3-2 Moose 3rd period sees the defense prevail again, no scoring the first 10 minutes. Moose control play with an 11-5 SOG advantage. Key momentum shift occurs 4 minutes in when the Moose enforcer (Price) takes on Messier, and both get 5 minutes off the ice. That keeps a key offensive threat neutralized, and helps the Moose milk the clock. Both teams kill penalties in the middle of the period. After that, Tambellini (4th line) adds an insurance goal with 6 to go, and Bothwell (3rd line) adds an empty netter late to make the final 5-2. Texas Brahmas @ Pittsburgh Spirit	The Texas Brahmas come into Pittsburgh like a bull in a China shop… they tie it up twice. 1-1 on Nilsson’s 5th, then with ONE SECOND left in the 1st, they tie it 2-2. Barber and Steen each get their first of the season for the Spirit. Pittsburgh would score 3 unanswered Sleigher (2), Van Boxmeer (1), and Steen (2) before Nilsson gets his 2nd of the game and 6th of the season to make it 5-3, but that’s where it would end. Pittsburgh 5, Texas 3
Syracuse Bulldogs @ Pittsburgh Spirit	Syracuse comes in like a bulldog in a China shop… (I need new material, I know). ALL SCORING happens in the 1st! PIT gets the first 2 from Sittler (4) and Paterson (1). Then Syracuse gets the next 2 from Bubla (1) and Broten (2). This all happened in the first 5:42!! Pittsburgh would score two more with Patrick (1, 2) being one shy of a hat trick. His second goal was a shorty… Have to mention that Mattsson gets the rare start, and his 4.7 goalie rating must have been ignored this game as he saved 43 of 45 for the victory! Pittsburgh 4, Syracuse 2
WEEKLY SUMMARY:	Two home games, two wins. This team is scrappy and will be fun this season. Much better than last season, but not nearly in the class of the back to back championship teams!

Dallas Drakes
Portland Sasquatch @ Dallas Drakes	Darcy Rota and Gilles Hamel pick up a pair of goals each as the Sasquatch upend the Drakes. Wayne Gretzky, Dino “Bam Bam” Ciccarelli and Guy Carbonneau also contributed two points each. Al Secord and Illka Sinisalo grabbed a pair of points for the Drakes. Squatch win 5-3
Syracuse Bulldogs @ Dallas Drakes	Syracuse comes into Dallas looking for their first win of the season. Don Beaupre was stellar in goal for the Drakes making 29 saves on 30 shots. Ilkka Sinisalo was in on all 3 goals for the Drakes with a goal and 2 assists. Rod Langway controlled the game from the blue line with a pair of assists, +2, 3 hits, 2 takeaways, and 2 blocked shots. Brian Bellows scored for the Bulldogs. Drakes take the game 3-1
Catoctin Cardinals @ Dallas Drakes	This game featured a pair of solid but struggling goalies in Al Jensen and Rick Wamsley. Wamsley had a good night saving 30 shots out of 33 taken on him. Al Jensen though gave up 4 goals on 20 shots as the Drakes squeaked out a 4-3 win. Al Secord paced the Drakes with a goal and two assists and Dave Farrish added two assists. The Cardinals spread their scoring around with only Larry Murphy with more than a point. Ron Flockhart losing 12 out of 15 in the dot hurt the Cardinals numerous times.
WEEKLY SUMMARY:	Dallas wins 2 out of 3.

Brooklyn Harbor Rats
WEEKLY PREVIEW:	Harbor Rats get off to a great 4-0 start in week one and play host to the 89ers, the Moose, and the Chiefs in week 2.
North Carolina 89’ers @ Brooklyn Harbor Rats	North Carolina comes to Brooklyn seeking their first win, while the home team has yet to lose this season. Darryl Sutter’s power-play goal is the only score of the first period, giving the Rats the lead. Then Brooklyn explodes in the 2nd period, getting a pair of Mark Johnson goals sandwiched around one from #1 pick Phil Housley, all in the first 8 minutes of the middle period to run away to another victory. Eddie Mio faces only 21 shots in a 4-1 Brooklyn win.
Mackinac Island Moose @ Brooklyn Harbor Rats	The Moose snap a 1-1 tie in the 2nd, getting a pair of goals (from Smyl and Terrion) just a minute apart, good for a 3-1 lead. Brent Peterson’s 3rd of the season, just :27 seconds before the horn, makes it a one-goal game. But Mark Napier extends the lead back to 2 just 3 minutes into the final period. With 11 minutes left, Mark Osborne’s 4th of the year again draws Brooklyn within a goal, but Rollie Melanson holds the Rats off the board the rest of the way for the Mackinac Island win 4-3 win.
Charlestown Chiefs @ Brooklyn Harbor Rats	After the teams traded first-period power-play goals, the Harbor Rats runoff in the 2nd. Darryl Sutter and Robbie Feetorek (how the announcer pronounces his name) score goals a minute apart to start the 2nd, then Paul Reinhart and Osborne score 90 seconds apart later in the 2nd as Brooklyn wins going away. Ray Bourque collects a pair of play tallies for the Chiefs in the loss. Eddie Mio makes 33 saves, including 14 in the 3rd period to seal the 5-2 Harbor Rats win.
WEEKLY SUMMARY:	A 2-1 week for the Harbor Rats with the only loss a tough one-goal game against a Moose team that had not suffered a loss yet this season, not too shabby.

Pittsburgh Spirit @ Portland Sasquatch	Charbonneau (1) gets a quick goal to open the game at the 1:14 mark of the first period for Portland. Pittsburgh evens the game 9:31 into the 2nd period with a goal from Steen (1) but Gretzky (5) scores 43 seconds later to help Portland regain the lead 2-1. At the 13:52 mark, Sittler (4) evens the score once again but Portland was not done in the second period has Howe scores 31 seconds later to lead Portland to a 3-2 break lead. IN the second period Charlotte takes their first lead on another goal from Hallin (2) at the 14:04 mark. Down 3-2 entering the third period Portland gets a goal from Hunter (1) 2:48 into the period and the games remained tied until Charlotte’s Queenville (1) finds the back of the net with1:20 remaining. Things were not looking goof for Portland but Carbonneau (2) manages to score with 47 seconds remaining to force the tie Star #1 – Gretzky 2 goals Star #2 – Hallin 2 goals Star #3 – Rogers 1 goal

WEEKLY PREVIEW:	The Ohio Legends welcome in Syracuse and Dallas for games this week.
Syracuse Bulldogs @ Ohio Legends	Ray Allison’s power-play goal with 4:39 to play secures the 5-5 tie for Ohio. The Legends needed a pair of goals in the final frame to secure the tie. Guy Lafleur’s goal with three seconds remaining in the second period closed out the scoring for Syracuse, it was his second of the night for the Bulldogs. The special teams factored into the contest, as Ohio went two-for-five with the extra attacker and Syracuse went one-for-three with the man-advantage. Richard Sevigny went the distance for the Bulldogs, re-routing 16 shots. Steve Weeks started for the Legends, turning away 19 shots before the Lafleur goal right before the end of the second, John Garrett came on in relief and stopped the final six shots.
Dallas Drakes @ Ohio Legends	Bernie Federko’s power-play goal two minutes into the second period proved to be the game-winner in a 5-2 Ohio victory. Miroslav Frycer and Mark Pavelich each had a goal and an assist for the Legends. John Garrett stopped 27 shots to pick up his first win of the year and Rick Wamsley stopped 18 for the Drakes. The Legends went two-for-six on the power play, while Dallas was zero-for-four.

WEEKLY PREVIEW:	Texas comes into the week without a win at 0-2-2 and what seems like a one-way ticket to the penalty box. CapJack at 2-2 and North Carolina at 0-4 come to visit.
CapJack Rangers @ Texas Brahmas	A back and forth game with CapJack as the teams exchange the first 4 goals. CapJack scores a PP goal in the 3rd and adds two empty-net goals to seal the win. Scoring chances heavily favored Texas but they couldn’t convert. Texas remains winless.
North Carolina 89’ers @ Texas Brahmas	Two winless teams square off in Fort Worth in a must-see game. Boutette strikes midway through the 1st to give Texas the lead. A common occurrence for Texas this year, Korn takes a 5-minute boarding penalty; however, Texas kills it and strikes again to take a 2-0 lead into the 3rd. Four consecutive penalties for North Carolina in the 3rd limit their chances for a comeback and although Texas doesn’t score, the game is all but over. Texas has its first win!

WEEKLY PREVIEW:	Charlotte, losers of three of its first four games to begin the season, has posted its second slow start the past two years. It looked to rebound with a home game versus the Texas Brahmas on October 26 (LONE HOME GAME OF THE WEEK FOR CHARLOTTE).
Texas Brahmas @ Charlotte Dynamo	In a game that was as statistically matched as possible with shots on goal tied at 29-29 and pretty much even from a faceoff, hits, and scoring chances standpoint), Charlotte emerges victorious with a 5-3 win that is closer than the final score indicates. The game was hotly contested until an even net strength goal by Charlotte’s Dale Hawerchuk with 26 seconds left iced it. Indicative of how closely matched these teams played, Brahmas center Kent Nilsson was the first star in a losing effort. His two early goals lifted Texas to an early 2-1 lead. Charlotte rallied with two goals in the second from Gil Perrault and Glenn Henderson, then a third Charlotte goal, by Bob Crawford, five minutes into the third period gave Charlotte a 4-2 edge. Texas got a fourth line goal with 8:17 left in the game, scored by Dave Lumley and assisted by Walt McKechnie and defenseman Dave Maloney, but despite outshooting the Dynamo 13-4 in the third, could not find the tying goal from there.
