Saskatoon Cyclone
Weekly Preview: Even after a decent first week Saskatoon finds itself in 3rd place in its division.
Charlestown Chiefs @ Saskatoon Cyclone Saskatoon scored three goals on its first four shots, Gretzky nabs the hat trick and the Cyclone cruise to an 8-2 win. Three fights in the game with two on-ice fights at one time at one point … Dave Maloney and Doug Risebrough (both for the Cyclone get game misconducts). That makes 3 of those in 3 home games for us. Nice.

Quebec City Le Blue @ Charlestown Chiefs Two games and two losses… can the Chiefs turn it around?

They come out flying and score the first two goals of the game – Miller (2) and Tremblay (1) both light the lamp. But then Charlestown gives up two late goals in the 1st – Howe (1) at 18:08 and O’Reilly (3) at 19:23!

The Chiefs own the 2nd period, collecting 3 goals: Boschman (6), McCarthy (3), and Boschman again (7) to take a commanding 5-2 lead.

But wait! Quebec City comes out with a vengeance in the 3rd and hangs FOUR GOALS on Eddie Mio , including the game winner by Ogrodnick (2) at 16:17! That 5-2 lead ends up as a 6-5 deflating loss.

Ruskowski collects two fighting majors – first against O’Reilly, then against Milbury. Little did he know how much we’d enjoy seeing this 38 years later…

Stars 1 Propp 2. Boldirev 3. Johnson

Philadelphia Firebirds @ Silk City Whales Bobby Schmautz two goals and an assist and Dave Keon has three helpers in the first period; Phil Myre saves 33 for the win.
Weekly Summary: Old time hockey at it’s best!

Philadelphia Firebirds
Quebec City Le Blue @ Philadelphia Firebirds Divisional rivals met for the first time and what a game. Philly ran off with a quick 3 goal lead. Quebec would not be denied as Leduc leds the way for not only a Quebec comeback but has them taking the lead 6-5 with just a minute 8 left. Philly pulls its goalie and sees Denis Maruk hit Marcel Dionne with a beauty of a pass and the Firebirds tie it up with seconds on the clock. This game feature a few battles with both Secord and Howatt being ejected.
Should be some good games bet Philly and Quebec this season.
Mackinac Island Moose @ Philadelphia Firebirds Philly hasnt been able to say this much but we got some solid goaltending from Phil Myre. The Moose outshot philly 42-25 but Myre was there to deny them at every turn. This game feature big hits all game long. The refs though were def from the Mak Island penalties were 7-1 in favor of the Moose. Dionee starred in this one again for Philly with a goal and 2 assists
Weekly Summary: Solid week for Philly . 1-0-1 against a couple great teams. Philly has been surprised with the offense so far this season. Goaltending is right where we thought it would be. Rumors in Philly is GM Brenner is heating up the phone lines in search of talent.

Vermont Foresters
Weekly Preview: 3 home games for vermont in week 2 as the foresters look to get out to a great start in their inaugural season.
Saskatoon Cyclone @ Vermont Foresters the league superstar makes his first visit to vermont and spends a lot of time skating around with don luce. this was a fun back and forth game and the foresters keep gretzky off the score sheet until there is less then 5 minutes left when the great one nets an unassisted goal to tie the score at 3. with a tie looming and less than 2 minutes to go vermont’s cornerstone player mark howe lights the lamp to give the home team a 4-3 victory. dale mccourt scored twice, kent nilsson added a goal and assist and glen hanlon stopped 37 shots for the foresters. don edwards made 39 saves with guy charron and ron wilson scored for the visitors.
Silk City Whales @ Vermont Foresters vermont has another division game as the whales from silk city come to town. another back and forth battle as the whales score first shorthanded with merrick taking advantage of a bad pass with a breakaway tally. rich preston then scored late in the 1st period and early in the 2nd to give the foresters the lead but before the 2nd period ends silk city scores 2 more for a 3-2 lead heading into the 3rd. at the 11:04 mark of the 3rd hats littered the ice as rich preston scored again and the whales and foresters end up kissing their sisters. ron grahame made 33 saves for vermont and eric vail had 2 assists. borje salming had 2 assists for the whales.
Biloxi Blades @ Vermont Foresters vermont’s 3rd home game of the week is against the blades from biloxi and its another back and forth contest and the most thrilling finish. maloney scored twice in the 1st period around a mark howe goal for vermont. lindstrom scored early in the 2nd to give the visitors a 3-1 lead but vermont answers with 3 straight goals, 2 by foligno and 1 from nilsson to end the 2nd period with the foresters ahead 4-3. a little more then 6 minutes into the 3rd and maloney scored his 3rd of the game, causing 1 hat to be thrown on the ice from the only biloxi fan in the stands, tying the game at 4. with another tie looming, mario marios scored with 38 seconds left to send the lone biloxi fan into a frenzy. the frenzy shifted though as reggie leach deflated the lone blade supporter by getting a puck past michel dion with only 2.7 seconds left. foligno ended up with 2 goals and 1 assist and nilsson had a goal and 2 assists for vermont. don maloney had 3 goals and 9 other players had 1 point for the visitors.
Weekly Summary: 1 win and 2 disappointing, yet exciting ties, highlight Vermont’s second week. Rich Preston had a hat trick, Mark Howe a couple big goals and Kent Nilsson continued his hot scoring.

Brooklyn Harbor Rats
Weekly Preview: only one home contest for the Rats this week
Vermont Foresters @ Brooklyn Harbor Rats The Foresters ride the red hot goaltending of Glen Hanlon, who makes 44 saves to lead the visitors to a 4-1 victory. Mike Foligno scored a pair of goals while Craig Ramsay recorded a 1-2-3 point night. The only Rats news of note was the smoke condition caused by a fire at the Nathan’s Hot Dog stand that held up the start of the second period for a few extra minutes.
Weekly Summary: Another home loss and we hope the have the Nathan’s stand re opened in time for next weeks games.

CapJack Rangers
Weekly Preview: CapJack is struggling out of the gates – after their high potent first game of the season it’s been downhill from there. Two home games this week.
Pittsburgh Spirit @ CapJack Rangers Spirit take the initiative and gain two goal buzzers in the 1st – Vickers (1) and Labraaten (2). They make it 3-0 when Sittler (4) goes unassisted early in the 2nd. Then the home team fights back with 3 in the 3rd – Douglas (2), Esposito (3) and Trottier (2) to tie the game. FINAL 3-3
STARS:
1. CAP Douglas – 1 goal
2. CAP Trottier – 1 goal
3. Labraaten – 1 goal
Resch’s 30 saves gets him a notable.
Saskatoon Cyclone @ CapJack Rangers This will probably be a familiar theme throughout the MWOTHL this year (and for year to come) but some guy named Gretzky decided to pretty much personally decide this game’s outcome. A goal in the 1st period, 2 assists in the 2nd and another goal in the 3rd period. Hmmm that’s 4 points and that matches up with the Cyclone’s 4 goals. The 2 in the 2nd were the difference as the home team scored 1 goal in each period. The was a goal scored in the 1st 1:14 or earlier in EACH period of this game.

Young Gretzky played only 16 minutes – most likely due to the fact that he’s on the 1st line with the USE MORE higher than the rest. For some reason the AI doesn’t do that. It seems to favor either line 2 or the slightly lower USE MORE settings common for Lines 2 and 3. Anyway, i his 16 minutes he had 5 shots – 2 went in and he had 5 HTIS!
STARS: (ALL SAS)
1. Gretzky – 2 goals, 2 assists
2. Taylor – 1 goal, 3 assists
3. Rota – 1 goal
Edwards was notable for 30 saves, Trottier won 19 faceoffs.

Weekly Summary: CapJack goes 0-1-1 tying Pittsburgh and then losing to Wayne Gretzky and Saskatoon.

Mackinac Island Moose
Weekly Preview: Biloxi (2-2-0) comes to the island to visit the Moose (1-3-0) who hope to turn things around early in the season.
Biloxi Blades @ Mackinac Island Moose Biloxi 2, Mackinac Island 1 – Strong defense in the first 2 periods keeps the game at 0-0 until late in the 2nd when Lever feeds Larson for a slapper and the Moose go up 1-0 going into the 2nd intermission. Up to this point it seems like Biloxi is winning most the faceoffs and getting scoring chances, but Corsi is up to the challenge fending off all scoring attempts.

The 3rd opens up the same until Biloxi gets a powerplay opportunity and Chipperfield takes advantage when Corsi loses his stick, and makes a wraparound work for the 1-1 tie. Contentious play for a little while then Rogers takes advantage of a up close position to put Biloxi in front 2-1. The game reverts back to defensive dominance and the game ends Biloxi 2-1

1st star – Dion 31 saves
2nd star – Rogers 1 goal
3rd star – Chipperfield 1 goal

Weekly Summary: No points at home for the Moose this week. The team continues to try and find the magic that resulted in 10 goals scored last week.

Player of the week had to be Michel Dion who saved 31 of 32 for a Biloxi road win.

Biloxi Blades
Philadelphia Firebirds @ Biloxi Blades Philadelphia jumps out to 3-0 lead but Blades come back and score late in 3rd and game ends 4-4
Chicago Underground @ Biloxi Blades Another close game, Rick Middleton and Mike Rogers lead the home town Blades to victory.
Weekly Summary: Blades get a win and a tie… undefeated with an *
