Weekly Preview: | Chicago with 2 home games and none on the road this week bring in Syracuse & Biloxi, both with 74+ Points already on the season |
Syracuse Bulldogs @ Chicago Underground | Division rivals square off, but the only team that showed up was Chicago. Chicago gets one early in the 1st & that’s all they need (Though they do score 2 more).

Biloxi Blades @ Chicago Underground | Chicago scores 4 before Biloxi puts up 2 in the 3rd, but the Underground hold on for the win.
Final Score: Chicago 4 – Biloxi 2 Star #1 – Clark Gillies – 1 Goal |
Weekly Summary: | Chicago gets 4 Points this week & though it doesn’t do them much good, it was a nice feeling winning a couple of games. |
HOME TEAM FOR GAME FILE ATTACHED | |

1st Star – Morris Lukowch, VER – 2G |
Weekly Summary: | The Whales play the mighty Foresters tough, but fall late. |
Charlestown Chiefs | |
Weekly Preview: | One home game against the Saskatoon Gretzkys. |
Saskatoon Cyclone @ Charlestown Chiefs | How did this happen?!
Charlestown smokes Saskatoon like a cheap cigar, winning 8-5. The Great One collects 2 goals (54 and 55 on the season) and 4 points in the loss, but Charlestown gets scoring up and down their lineup to pull off the upset. Scoring Summary Star 1: SAS Gretzky 2 G, 4 Pts GWG: Laurie Boschman Notables: SAS Gretzky 18 faceoffs won, McKenzie 31 saves |
Weekly Summary: | Nostradamus didn’t see this one coming… |

Weekly Preview: | One home game vs. division rival CapJack. |
CapJack Rangers @ Pittsburgh Spirit | This game was even and back and forth through the first two periods as we entered the 3rd with the score tied at 3, but then the wheels feel off for the Rangers as the Spirit put a a 6 spot in the 3rd!

Weekly Summary: | One home game, two points. We have all but clinched the division. Resting players early in the season may have been the key as the best guys are on the ice every night for the Spirit right now, when it matters most. |
Syracuse Bulldogs | |
Weekly Preview: | The Bulldogs have 2 home games this series and are trying to fight off the playoff hungry Quebec Lebleu. |
St. Clair Shores Saints @ Syracuse Bulldogs | All Saints in the begining. All Bulldogs towards the end. But not the very end as St. Clair Shores lights the lamp with 49 seconds left and win it 5-4. Stars #1. Thompson 2. Nilsson 3. Ronny Duguay |

Quebec City Le Blue | |
Weekly Preview: | With 7 games left in the season, Le Blue trails Syracuse by 8 points for the division lead and a berth in the playoffs. Their only game this week is at home against last place Philadelphia, a team that has played them tough all season (2-2-1 going into this contest) |
Philadelphia Firebirds @ Quebec City Le Blue | Philadelphia 3 Quebec City 2
The Firebirds trail 2-1 going into the third period but tie it on Hartland Monahan’s first goal of the year at 8:37 and then get the game winning goal with 1:17 left when Al Secord put the puck past Le Blue netminder Gilles Gilbert. It was a fight filled game as the teams combined for 94 penalty minutes which included 14 fighting majors. Quebec’s Pierre Plante had 17 PIM including a game misconduct. Secord and Howatt of Philly and Quebec’s Colin Campbell each had 10 PIM. The Firebirds pesky center Mel Bridgman had 10 hits as he set the tone for a Philadelphia team that out hit Quebec 38-29. Quebec had many more scoring chances (32-13) but Firebirds goalie Wayne Stephenson made 33 saves to get the victory. Three stars: |
Weekly Summary: | Quebec is now 28-34-12-68 and trail Syracuse by 8 points with 6 games to go. While not mathematically eliminated Le Blue will pretty much have to win all of their remaining games to have any sort of shot at the playoffs. Philadelphia is 23-42-8-54, last in the Norris Division. Yet against Quebec this season, the Firebirds are 3-2-1. |
Brooklyn Harbor Rats | |

Charlestown Chiefs @ Brooklyn Harbor Rats | Harbor Rats grab a 3 goal lead in the first 5 minutes and hang on for a 7-4 win over the Chiefs. Bobby Smith scores 2 goals and adds 4 assists for Brooklyn. Rick Martin and Doug Hicks also score 2 goals each. |
CapJack Rangers @ Brooklyn Harbor Rats | The visitors move out to a 3-0 lead but the Rats fight back to even the score at 4 early in the 3rd period. Less than a minute later Phil Esposito puts the Rangers back on top. Again Brooklyn gets the tying goal when Mike Gartner scores with just under 8 minutes remaining. With under 3 minutes left Steve Shutt scores his 54th of the season and Capjack hangs on for a 6-5 road win. |
Weekly Summary: | A split at home is not good when your club is chasing |
Mackinac Island Moose | |
Weekly Preview: | One home game for the Moose this week, against Philly |
Philadelphia Firebirds @ Mackinac Island Moose | Firebirds 3, Moose 0 – Wayne Stephenson had game in this one, stopping all 30 SOG. The Firebirds got scoring from Howatt, Anderson and Bridgman, one in each period. 1st star – Stephenson 30 saves, shutout 2nd star – Anderson 1g 3rd star – Howatt 1g |
Weekly Summary: | No points this week at home for the Moose due to a stellar performance by Wayne Stephenson, a 30 save shutout for the Firebirds. |
Saskatoon Cyclone | |
Weekly Preview: | Saskatoon plays host to CapJack as the season winds down with a handful of games to go. Meaningless for both teams with Capjack playing for playoff positioning (if anything) and Saskatoon looking to squeeze out the last few games in preparation for the Denis Savard sweepstakes. |
CapJack Rangers @ Saskatoon Cyclone | A game dominated on the ice by the Saskatoon skaters but unfortunately it was settled in nets where the Cyclone were represented by that useless sack of shit known as Bill (the Ghost) McKenzie who was his usual sievelike self and allowed Capjack escape with a 5-4 win. Darcy Rota round himself playing left wing to Wayne Gretzky at centre and Dave Taylor on the right side and reaped the benefits early scoring on a give and go at 5:44 of the 1st period to give Saskatoon the surprise early lead. It was Rota’s 13th of the season … he’d likely have more but was stuck playing alongside a bunch of shitheads for much of the season. Carol Vadnais got a 5-minute major and tossed from the game at 14:58 of the first period for charging and attempting to squeeze Saskatoon defenceman Dave Maloney through the boards. Saskatoon capitalized on the power play and it took all of 30 seconds into it for Dave Taylor to score his 43rd of the season when he batted in a Gretzky rebound that Capjack goalie Dan Bouchard could not handle to make it 2-0. The 2nd period … well sucked if you were a Cyclone fan. Larry Robinson pinched in and intercepted an attempted clearing pass and set up a vintage garbage goal by none other than the trashman himself – Steve Shut -to make it 2-1. It was Shutt’s 54th of the season. Nice job, dude! Rota continued to milk his 1st line presence by scoring his 2nd of the game on the power play around the midway mark of the 2nd period in what would prove to be a rare bright spot in the period making it 3-1. The power play has been a two-edged sword for Saskatoon of late so why should this game prove to be any different. A scramble in the Saskatoon end had sniper Danny Gare finding himself with the puck and rather than being greedy and shooting himself (not as in suicide as that would be wrong), he fed the puck through the crease past stupified Saskatoon netminder McKenzie to the waiting stick of Bryan Trottier which made no mistake and tapped the puck home to make it 3-2 for Saskatoon. It was Trottier’s 45th goal and second point of the game. Gare was doing his best to keep Trottier in the scoring race with Gretzky by rifling a puck past McKenzie a couple of minutes later. Trottier drew the assist to give him three points so far with the score tied at 3-3. Don Murdoch’s shot off the post and past McKenzie gave him goal # 20 on the year and the Rangers the lead 4-3 less than a minute later. Saskatoon poured it on in the third period, but an untimely interference penalty handed to Joel Quenneville wound up with crapbag Phil Esposito scoring from the slot to give him #24 on the year and the Rangers with a soul crushing 5-3 lead. Oh man … McKenzie sucks. No wonder he never played again after this season. That same Esposito got the gate for two minutes despite his pleas of ignorance for a penalty that did not exist when he played (checking from behind) and Taylor notched #44 on the year on the ensuing power play to bring Saskatoon within one at 5-4. Gare drew a hooking penalty at 18:12 of the 3rd period which basically resulted in a two-minute, two-man advantage for Saskatoon as they pulled McKenzie immediately but it was not to be despite several scoring chances. Saskatoon outshot Capjack 45-24 in the game but the difference came down to goaltending. Capjack had a real goaltender and Saskatoon had a cardboard cutout. Saskatoon dominated the stars as a result: 1. SASK, Dave Taylor (2 goals, 1 assist) 2. SASK, Darcy Rota (2 goals) 3. CAP, Bryan Trottier (1 goal, 2 assists)Honorable mention went to Wayne Gretzky for logging 33 minutes of ice time in which he won 26 faceoffs and four assists.A mins 20 stars to Bill McKenzie who should be running a convenience store somewhere in Idaho. |
Weekly Summary: | A better than expected performance from the Cyclone is wasted thanks to crappy goaltending. |
Vermont Foresters | |
Weekly Preview: | only 1 home game against brooklyn as the season nears the end and vermont fights for the leagues best overall record |
Brooklyn Harbor Rats @ Vermont Foresters | mike veisor gets the call in net for the foresters against mike palmateer for the harbor rats. brooklyns bobby smith scores first on the powerplay 8:23 in the opening period looking for the upset. mike foligno scored 1:21 later to tie the score from mccourt and howe. less then 3 minutes later reggie leach scored his 41st of the year from nilsson and lukowich. rich preston scored on the powerplay 2:29 later for a 3-1 vermont lead. 13:09 into the second mike foligno scored his 2nd of the game to up the lead to 4-1. with 2- seconds left in the 2nd brooklyns mike gartner made it 4-2 giving the visitors hope heading into the 3rd. mike veisor kept brooklyn out of the net until less then 5 minutes to go when bobby smith scored his 2nd of the game but that would be the last for the rats and dale hogansen sealed the win with an empty net goal with 17 seconds left. this was a rare game for vermont being outshot by brooklyn 42-32 but mike veisor made 39 saves to lead the foresters to a much needed victory. dale mccourt has 3 assists and mike foligno 2 goals for the home team, while bobby smith has 2g and 1a. |
