Chicago Underground
Weekly Preview: Chicago just trying to play out the year and be respectable.
Philadelphia Firebirds @ Chicago Underground Division Rivals the Philadelphia Firebirds come to town and look to give the Underground a beat down. The Firebirds score early, but the Chicago squad doesn’t like to be booed at home anymore so they net 2 themselves before the end of the first period of play. The Underground tack on one more in the second period & that’s how it finishes up.

Final Score: Chicago 3 Philadelphia 1

Star #1 -Rick Seiling – 2 Goals
Star #2 – Pete Peeters – 39 Saves
Star #3 – John Tonelli – 1 Goal

Weekly Summary: Chicago nets 2 Points at home & is really looking forward to the 1980-1981 Season.

Syracuse Bulldogs
Weekly Preview: A very important home and home series between Syracuse and Quebec City. The teams are 6 pts apart with 7 games left.
Quebec City Le Blue @ Syracuse Bulldogs Quebec City lights the lamp first as Weir nets a ppg.
Al MacAdam and Syracuse ties it at one in the 2nd.
Halfway thru the 3rd Mike Milbury gets one as Quebec City wins a huge game on the road!!
Weekly Summary: Quebec City keeps their playoff hopes alive!!

CapJack Rangers
Weekly Preview: The Rangers have the slimmest of slim chance of catching the Pittsburgh Spirit (yeah, maybe if they rolled over and forfeited the rest of their games – then maybe), but they have to win at home. This week they feature 1 at home hosting the Harbor Rats, then they make the trek to Brooklyn for a return match at the wharf.
Brooklyn Harbor Rats @ CapJack Rangers Game starts out just dandy for the Rangers – NOT. Rats get 3 first period goals, McAdam (19) at 9:42. Then 2 minutes later, with Esposito in the sin bin, Valiguette (20) scores. And the refs were really blowing some phantom whistles and the “see” Vadnais hooking and off he goes. While gone, the Harbor Rats crank out another PP goal – this one by Gartner (31) which makes the team 2 for 3 on PPs IN THE FIRST PERIOD!

2nd Period Scoring however belongs to the Rangers. Early in, their high scoring 2nd line connects as Danny Gare nets number 60, set up by Trottier and Shutt. Then the Rangers get to go on the PP and Cloutier (19) makes the Rats pay – ha, take that, and cuts the score down to 3-2 Brooklyn and that’s where it ends after 2 periods.

3rd period is pretty static for the 1st 7 minutes and the Trottier breaks through with goal number 46 to tie the game. 1 minute later Kindrachuk steals one and takes it in all alone to put CapJack on top 4-3. And Bouchard – who had the tough opening period made it stick blanking the Rats over much of the final 2 and 1/2 periods. And that include a final minute of intense extra skater on the ice for Brooklyn.
STARS (All CAP)
1. Trottier 1 goal, 1 assist (as he tries to get back in the scoring race with some guy named Wayne)
2. Gare 1 goal
3. Cloutier 1 goal

Weekly Summary: 1-0 at home this week against Brooklyn. Trying to hang in there.

Quebec City Le Blue
Weekly Preview: Quebec City, with a win, would close to within four points of Syracuse for the Norris Division title and a spot in the playoffs. Le Blue beat Syracuse in Syracuse 2-1 on March 10 and are looking to make it two in a row over their division rivals.
Syracuse Bulldogs @ Quebec City Le Blue Syracuse wins this big game by a 3-1 score. Al MacAdam, having a fantastic season, scored in the second and third periods to put the Bulldogs ahead 2-0. For McAdam the goals wer #47 and 48 on the season as Brian Propp assisted on both (67 assists this season for Propp). Quebec, with a 41-22 SOG advantage, kept pouring it on but Dennis Edwards stood tall in the net for Syracuse, going for a shutout. Finally, with 1:24 to go and Tony Esposito pulled from the Quebec City net, Chuck Lefley scored, from O’Reilly and Milbury to make it 2-1 –for Lefley only his second goal of the season and it was HUGE. With the Quebec City fans in a frenzy, Le Blue kept the extra skater on the ice in an effort to tie it. Instead, Brian Propp scored into an empty net with 27 seconds to go (his 31st goal of the year) assisted by who else but McAdam – as Le Colisee went quiet and the Bulldogs came away with their most important win of the year.

Three Stars:
#1 – MacAdam 2 goals, 1 assist
#2 Propp 1 goal, 3 assists
#3 Edwards, 40 saves

Weekly Summary: Syracuse was 5-2-1 on the season against Quebec City and that is the difference in terms of one team making the playoffs and the other not. Trailing by 8 points with 4 games to go, Quebec City is all but mathematically eliminated from the postseason.

Brooklyn Harbor Rats
Weekly Preview: A road loss to Capjack and now back to Brooklyn for the re match
CapJack Rangers @ Brooklyn Harbor Rats It’s been a long time since we defeated Capjack on opening night. 6 straight losses to the Rangers coming into the this game, tied for the final East Conference playoff spot, looking to break a bad streak. But Danny Gare gets his 61st goal of the season in the opening period. Then Gare and Trottier score on a 5 minute power play to open a 3-0 Rangers lead. It’s 4-1 with 13 minutes remaining when Rick Martin breaks through with a pair of goals to get the home crowd back into it. But 2 minutes later Trotts 92nd assist of the season sets up the game’s final goal as Capjack sweeps the week from Brooklyn, 5-3.
Weekly Summary: Another bad week in Brooklyn, adding zero points in their battle for the post season

Charlestown Chiefs
Saskatoon Cyclone @ Charlestown Chiefs How many times do we have to play against this Gretzky clown?!

Wayne certainly doesn’t mind; if he could play against Charlestown every he’d have finished his career with 4000 points.

Yes, Gretzky scored a goal (56) and had a pair assists, but we spanked his skinny butt 5-3 to get the last laugh. Maybe play some defense, Great One…

Lanny McDonald was the Chief Hero, scoring a pair of goals (26 & 27).

Eddie Mio “improves” his record to 9-13-9… which actually is quite impressive on a 21-38-16 team.

Saskatoon Cyclone
Weekly Preview: Charlestown heads to chilly Saskatoon as the two teams wind down their going-nowhere seasons with a home-and-away series in which the Chiefs already won game one on their own ice.
Charlestown Chiefs @ Saskatoon Cyclone Charlestown played a nice even game and dominated the second period with three goals but unfortunately for them Ed Mio played like complete crap in nets allowing a third of the shots he faced as the Chiefs fell 7-5 to Saskatoon.
Out of nowhere, right winger Pat Hughes scored his first and very likely last hat trick with the Cyclone including two goals in the five-goal Cyclone first period and finishing it off with a wrist shot past Mio with less than two minutes left in the game.
The Chiefs played their butts off trying to make up for Mio’s poor play down 5-1 after the 1st period they scrambled back to make it 5-4 by the end of the 2nd.
The Cyclone stretched the advantage to three goals but Wilf Paiment cut it to a two-goal game with his 2nd of the night with 52 seconds left on the clock.
The Cyclone scored their first two goals on breakaways in the 1st period with Wayne Gretzky deking out Mio to open the scoring on the first shot and then combining with defenceman Dave Maloney for one of those unforgiveable short-handed goals with Charlestown on a two-man advantage.
