Weekly Summary: Syracuse wins their most important games of the year.

Saskatoon Cyclone
Weekly Preview: Top of the hill Vermont takes on the mole people of Saskatoon for the Cyclone season-ending home game. Yay!
Vermont Foresters @ Saskatoon Cyclone Saskatoon goalie Rogie Vachon stood on his head in this game … at least I hope so as no one skating normally would have been so shitty in net.
Vermont gets outshot 46-26, but it was a meaningless victory for Saskatoon as Vermont crushed them 6-0 on the scoreboard as Glen Hanlon gets the W and the Shutout … not a bad way to end a regular season on the road even if it was against the running-on-fumes lineup for Saskatoon.
Mike Foligno had a pair of goals and the worst helmet of anyone on the ice for Vermont. Judging from photos I can only assume his helmet was screwed on.
Speaking of a head of hair you can’t get a helmet on, good ol’ Sabre Don Luce raced his ‘fro down the ice late in the game and slid the puck into the empty net as Saskatoon was doing anything it could to try and break the shutout … but alas … it was not to be.
Despite the edge in shots, Vermont held the day in actual scoring chances by a wide margin of 22-8.
Hanlon had a lot of outside shots fired at him but was masterful in handling the rebounds.
First star goes to Hanlon, then Foligno and then #3 to Mr. Nilsson for a goal and an assist.
Weekly Summary: It’s mercifully over.

CapJack Rangers
Weekly Preview: Playing out the string as we can’t catch the Spirit (though we have spirit). Home and home with San Diego – this is the at CapJack version. Trottier has outside chance to catch the Great One – was he the Great One yet?
San Diego Mariners @ CapJack Rangers San Diego wanted no part of CapJack finishing on a high note and scores at 2:10 – Smith (28). Then Kindrachuck gets nabbed for hooking and 6:28 into the game, Perreault (37) gets the PP goal, 2-0. But Rangers storm back with Esposito (doing very well as the season closes) scores 3 minutes after the last Mariners goal – his 27th. 3 minutes later Trottier scores (49) to tie the game. But Charlie Simmer, in a heated battle with Danny Gare for leading goal scorer puts one between the pipes past Bouchard for #66 and a 3-2 lead.

But Danny Gare returns the favor 14 minutes into period 2 as he scores for his 66th on a delayed penalty to Mulvey. Tie game going into the 3rd, 3-3.

Bulley, acts like one, and is called for roughing 5 minutes in the 3rd giving the Rangers another PP opportunity and Esposito connects (28) to put the Rangers up 4-3. And that’s how it ends.

Stars:
1. CAP Esposito 2 goals
2. CAP Trottier 1 goal, 1 assist (23 faceoffs won)
3. SDM Perreault 1 goal, 1 assist

Weekly Summary: Rangers win the season finale and the goal lead will depend on what Simmer and Gare did in San Diego!

Philadelphia Firebirds
Weekly Preview: The pain is real!
Syracuse Bulldogs @ Philadelphia Firebirds Syracuse 5 Philly 1

Randy Holt gets a point! Randy Holt gets a point!

Weekly Summary: Whens the draft????

Charlestown Chiefs
Silk City Whales @ Charlestown Chiefs In a battle of bottom dwellers, we can’t even say someone has to win, since we could tie. But as they’ve shown this year, Charlestown is just a slight bit better than Silk City and wins it 3-2. Of course these inept teams have to find interesting ways to win/lose — and they do, as Tremblay scores short handed for the Chiefs at 17:28 of the 3rd to snatch victory from the jaws of a tie.
Weekly Summary: Charlestown can’t even play for draft position correctly, winning their final home game of the year. We expect much better things from this band of misfits next season and beyond.

Quebec City Le Blue
Weekly Preview: Quebec City playing out the string as they have been eliminated from the playoffs
Chicago Underground @ Quebec City Le Blue Quebec City routs Chicago 7-3 to take the season series 5-1-2. Quebec scores six unanswered goals as the Underground pull Goalie Hogosta after four first period goals, with Pete Peeters replacing him. Stan Jonathan scores two of the first period goals, giving him 25 goals for the season. Chicago actually outshot Quebec City 38-30, with a 21-5 edge in the third period when the game was out of reach. Mike Bossy netted his 40th of the season for Chicago
THREE STARS:
1- QUE Stan Jonathan 2 Goals
2- QUE Vaclav Nedomansky 1 Goal, 2 Assists
3- QUE Stan Weir, 1 Goal 1 AssistGilles Gilbert makes 35 saves for Le Blue. Michel Goulet has 3 assists. Stan Weir wins 16 faceoffs and Richie LeDuc 17 as Le Blue win 43 of 71 faceoffs on the game
Weekly Summary: It is wait til next year for Quebec City. Rumors are that Le Blue will be moving next year to the US and settling in the New York City area. Jean Ratelle led Le Blue in scoring this year with 71 points. Terry O’Reilly had 288 PIM but was also the team’s second leading scorer with 69 points. Stan Weir led the club in Goals with 30. Tony Esposito played most of the games in goals (69) and had a 3.35 GAA. Espo is 36 years old and Ratelle is 39 so Le Blue will have to get younger as they move forward.

Vermont Foresters
Weekly Preview: vermont with the division locked up try to finish 1st overall have a home and home with saskatoon
Saskatoon Cyclone @ Vermont Foresters the gretzky cyclones come in to town for the foresters last regular season home game. vermont dominates the first period and have a 2-0 lead after goals by howe and preston, outshooting them 18-8. the 2nd period is a whole different game though as glen hanlon cant seem to stop anything and the cyclone score 4 goals in the last 10 minutes of the period, green, his 3rd, rota, 17th, gretzky, 61st and ruff, his 3rd to take a 4-2 lead into the 3rd, after outshooting vermont 13-12. vermont came out for the 3rd after team captain reggie leach spent the entire 2nd intermission lighting a fire under his team and scored 2 goals in 37 seconds and tie the game at 4 just 82 seconds into the 3rd, preston 2nd of the game and 24th of the year and kent nilsson his 39th. neither team is able to break the tie the rest of the way as vermont has a 17-13 edge in shots on goal and the score ends 4-4 making it unlikely that vermont will be able to overtake st croix falls.
Weekly Summary: another disappointing home tie when a victory was needed. 2 goals by preston and a goal and assist by mark howe

Mackinac Island Moose
Weekly Preview: The Moose finish the season at home against playoff bound St. Claire Shores.
St. Clair Shores Saints @ Mackinac Island Moose Saints 6, Moose 2 – The pumped up crowd enjoys the first half of the game, as the teams trade scores (Thompson and Hislop) for a first period tie, and then O’Connel puts the home team up 2-1 early in the 2nd. The festivities end late in the 2nd as the party poopers from St. Claire rain in 5 goals (Babych, Marsh, Kelly, Thompson, Wilson) to make it 6-2 for the visitors.
1st star Thompson 2g
2nd star Babych 1g1a
3rd star Wilson 1g1a
Weekly Summary: The lottery bound Moose get overwhelmed by the much better playoff bound Saints.

Thompson is the classiest player with 2 goals.

Silk City Whales
Weekly Preview: The season mercifully comes to the end as the Whales welcome Charlestown. Silk City has called up all the minor leaguers that did not get into a league game this season as a reward for working hard during this challenging season.
Charlestown Chiefs @ Silk City Whales Silk City scores five power play goals and Borje Salming has a hat trick as the Whales win the season finale 9-5. Salming adds two assists and defense partner Barry Beck adds a goal and three helpers as Silk City has a rare game with no major penalties; playing it straight like Reg Diunlop would have wnated them to.

1st Star – Borje Salming, SCW – 3G, 2A
2nd Star – Barry Beck, SCW – G, 3A
3rd Star – Ken Houston, SCW – G, 3A

Weekly Summary: Silk City completes their initial season with a 18-49-13 record and 49 points, pulling up the rear in the league’s inaugural season. Barry Beck led the team in scoring (23-46-69); Rick Kehoe led with 27 goals and Borje Salming led with 48 assists. Willi Plett had 213 PIM, dropping the gloves 24 times. Bob Sauve managed to have a 3.59 GAA behind a porous defense, illustrated by Lars Lindgren’s ghastly -75 plus/minus.

Biloxi Blades
Weekly Preview: Biloxi fighting for playoff spot, Saint Croix Falls Lumberjacks kicking tail, first overall…and they and St. Clair Shore laughing how confused Biloxi owner gets when trying to figure out which Saintly team Blades are playing.
Saint Croix Falls Lumberjacks @ Biloxi Blades Mike Rogers two goals, Rick Middleton two assists, Jim Schoenfeld two assists, Blade Owner Hamilton two strawberry sundaes. Blades 6 Whichever Saintly team we’re playing 1
Weekly Summary: Nice game for Blades, home fans think it was a long time coming

Pittsburgh Spirit
Weekly Preview: Last home game of the season before the playoffs sees Brooklyn in the house that The Flower built.
Brooklyn Harbor Rats @ Pittsburgh Spirit Very even game. 1-1 after one period. Then PIT scores three unanswered goals to go on top 4-1 in the 2nd. Brooklyn pots two by the end of the 2nd to cut it to a 4-3 PIT lead. Brooklyn scores 48 seconds into the 3rd to tie it 4-4!
