Chicago Underground
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Chicago with 2 home games for the week & 1 on the road has been playing much better hockey after a horrific start in what they thought was going to be a playoff run season. Now it’s turning into golf season.
Pittsburgh Spirit @ Chicago Underground Chicago puts up 3 goals before a mid-3rd-period goal gets the Spirit on the board. Nothing else comes of this game as both teams are non-contenders this season.

Final Score: Chicago 3 – Pittsburgh 1

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Chicago books 2 more games in the books at home and books 2 more golf courses for summer vacation.
CapJack Rangers
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Rangers have 1 home game this week – against the Spirit – and they need a win….
Pittsburgh Spirit @ CapJack Rangers Rangers find ways to avoid scoring on the PP – they get 2 goals during delayed penalties in this one! We’ll take it. And they scored 4 other goals on their way to a convincing 6-1 victory. Trottier leads the way with a hat trick. Yet, at one point the Spirit did have the lead when Hagman scored a PP goal 9 minutes into the game – but after that, fagettabouutit!
STARS (all CAP)
1. Trottier 3 goals
2. Tambellini 1 goal, 1 assist
3. Marsh 1 goal
WEEKLY SUMMARY: Rangers go 1-0-0 at home this week, YAY!
Syracuse Bulldogs
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Chicago takes a long bus ride to beautiful Syracuse
Chicago Underground @ Syracuse Bulldogs I don’t know what the MWOTHL record for goals is. This one was up there. 15 combined goals were scored in a 9-6 Bulldog victory. Lotsa of fights too. 86 penalty minutes
Stars #1 SYR Leach 2G
#2 SYR Larouche 1G 3pts
#3 SYR Larson 1G 3pts
WEEKLY SUMMARY: Surprisingly Syracuse wins their only home game
Brooklyn Harbor Rats
WEEKLY PREVIEW: A pair of divisional tilts in the struggling Patrick division as Charlotte and Capjack come to Brooklyn.
Charlotte Dynamo @ Brooklyn Harbor Rats Dave Christian got the Rats on the board just 1:32 into the game and Bobby Smith made it 2-0 4 minutes later. Blake Wesley cuts the lead in half for the Dynamo with just 1:32 left in the period, but Bengt Ake Gustafsson scores in the final minute to regain the 2 goal lead for the Harbor Rats at the first intermission.
Just 2 minutes into the 2nd, Charlie Simmer again draws Charlotte within a goal but less than 2 minutes later Bobby Smith answers with his 2nd of the game to make it 4-2, Brooklyn. Just past the game’s halfway point, Larry Playfair hits a long-distance blast to make it 5-2 and that would be all the scoring as the Harbor Rats grab a 5-2 win over the Dynamo.
CapJack Rangers # Brooklyn Harbor Rats These 2 teams are battling for the division lead and it shows as nearly half the game passes with no scoring. But Gustafsson buries a power-play goal to draw first blood for the Harbor Rats and Mike Gartner deflects home Moose Dupont’s blast for a 2-0 lead late in the middle frame before Steve Shutt beats Greg Millen in the final minute of the 2nd. So we head to the final 20 minutes in a one-goal game.
Just 1:19 in, Darryl Sutter gets his 10th of the season to regain the 2 goal lead for Brooklyn. Then Chris Valentine nets a power play score for the Rangers to again make it a one-goal game. 1:17 later Sutter sets up Mark Johnson as the Harbor Rats again grab a 2 goal lead and this time, they make it stick, as they hang on for the 5-3 win over Capjack. Greg Millen makes 41 saves for the win.
WEEKLY SUMMARY: 4 points against division rivals this week, a very good week in Brooklyn.
Saint Clair Shores Saints
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Charlotte and Mackinac Island visit St. Clair Shores
Charlotte Dynamo @ Saint Clair Shores Saints Doug Wilson puts on a show for the home crowd. The defenseman scores a hat trick where he scores an even-handed, short-handed, and power-play goal. These goals were scored in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd periods. Amazing. Also, Ron DeLorme scores an insurance goal. Keans gets a shutout.

SCS 4 Charlotte 0

1-Wilson
2-Keans
3-Delorme

Mackinac Island Moose @ Saint Clair Shores Saints Barber scores 2 goals for the Moose as he leads them to victory. MacLean adds his 31st and Kurri with his 14th. Doug Wilson scores 2 goals for the Saints.

Mackinac Island 5 SCS 3

1-Barber 2 goals 1 assist
2-Wilson 2 goals
3-Lysiak 1 goal 2 assists

WEEKLY SUMMARY: SCS defeats Charlotte and loses to first place Mackinac Island.

Nominee – player of the week – Doug Wilson with a hat trick in game 1, which includes a PP, SH, and even-handed goal. In-game 2, he scores 2. He now has 32 goals from the defenseman position.

Ohio Legends
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Ohio welcomes a pair of playoff-bound teams to Legends Arena this week.
Brooklyn Harbor Rats @ Ohio Legends BROOKLYN 3, OHIO 3

Jody Gage’s sixth goal of the season at 16:35 of the third period rallied Ohio to a 3-3 tie with Brooklyn.

Gilles Gilbert stopped 28 shots to give the Legends a standings point, while Ron Low turned away 23 to give the ‘Rats their point. Brooklyn outshot Ohio, 31-26, and each team converted a power play in the tie.

Bernie Federko had a pair of assists for Ohio.

Mackinac Island Moose @ Ohio Legends OHIO 5, MACKINAC ISLAND 4

The Adams-leading Moose surrender John Anderson’s second goal of the night (and 23rd of the season) with 33 seconds remaining to give Ohio three points for the week at home.

Ohio held a 4-1 edge going into the third, but Blake Dunlop had a goal and an assist to push the Moose into the tie. The Legends went two-for-three on the power play, while Mackinac Island was one-for-four with the man-advantage.

John Garrett stopped 29 shots for his sixth win, while Gilles Meloche stopped 21 while absorbing his tenth defeat.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Ohio gets three of four points at home on the week. Unfortunately, sitting about 20 points out of a playoff spot–this is way too little, way too late.
Silk City Wales
WEEKLY PREVIEW: The Whales have three home games this week with the three other teams in the Smythe Division coming in. Big week.
Delray Alpha @ Silk City Whales The Alpha come from behing three times in the second half of the game and get an 8-8 tie with the Whales. Silk City had taken a 6-1 lead midway thru the second period, chasing Delray goalie Reggie Lemelin, and looked to be in control. But the high-powered Delray attack came all the back to tie the game at 6 with five minutes left in the game. From there, Silk City took leads of 7-6 and 8-7, only to see the Alpha come back to tie the score, including Dino Ciccarelli’s third goal of the game (and 52 of the season) with “30 remaining.

Brooklyn Harbor Rats @ Pittsburgh Spirit Spirit gets to a 2-1 lead, then the wheels fall off…

Brooklyn 8, Pittsburgh 4

WEEKLY SUMMARY: “It will get uglier before it gets better…”
Charlotte Dynamo
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Charlotte was winless in its last eight games (0-7-1) as it entertained two Patrick division rivals in this latest week of play. The second-half slide effectively knocked the Dynamo out of a wide-open Patrick division race that was up for grabs prior to this latest Charlotte slump.
CapJack Rangers @ Charlotte Dynamo The Dynamo emerged from the doldrums, and end their winless streak with a 7-4 win over the division-leading Rangers. Charlotte ignited for three goals (from Dale Hawerchuk, Dave Langevin and Tom Fergus) in a four-minute span midway through the game to break open a 2-2 tie. Early third period goals by Rangers’ Risto Siltanen and Real Cloutier closed the deficit to 5-4 but a Gil Perreault goal at 16:23, followed by an Ian Turnbull empty netter in the last minute put the game on ice for Charlotte.

Notables: Tony Esposito shines with 45 saves for Charlotte; Keith Crowder racks up 24 penalty minutes for CapJack

Pittsburgh Spirit @ Charlotte Dynamo In likely its best effort of the season, the Dynamo light up the scoreboard and turn back the defending champion Spirit 10-3. With the score 1-1 at the outset of the second period, Charlotte erupts for eight unanswered goals, with the rampage not ending until a Gil Perreault goal with 10:51 left to play puts the Dynamo ahead 9-1. Perreault later notched a hat trick with a goal with 59 seconds remaining. Esposito again was an unsung hero with 39 saves. Patey, Crowder and Rick MacLeish account for the Pittsburgh goals. Dynamo center Mike Rogers chips in with two goals and rookie Steve Bozek scores his final goal for Charlotte before being traded to New Castle at the trade deadline for Dave Hunter.
WEEKLY SUMMARY: The mercurial Dynamo live up to its nickname and break out of its winless skid in a big way with 2 offensively-charged wins at home. Unfortunately, horrendous starts to open the first half (1-6-1) and the second half (0-7-1) may have effectively doused any lingering playoff aspirations. Charlotte became sellers at the deadline and traded away Bozek to New Castle in exchange for Dave Hunter and a high draft pick.
