GAME #1: PITTSBURGH SPIRIT VS. CAPJACK RANGERS You gotta win the ones you’re supposed to win and the Rangers stumble and find themselves tied 2-2 are 2, then 3-3 and 4-4 in the 3rd before finally putting the game on ice in the last 3 minutes, scoring twice, the last one an empty netter with 51 seconds to go for a 6-4 win.
Pittsburgh gets its first goal from former Ranger Neufeld, then Payne racks up 2 and Ashton gets the Spirit’s last goal.

GAME #2: SAINT CLAIR SHORES SAINTS VS. CAPJACK RANGERS So, the easy team was tough, what will the tough team be? TOUGHER!
Periods 1 and 2 are blanks for both teams although the Saints gave it a great try. They fire 28 shots on goal in the opening 2 periods (16 in the 2nd) while the Rangers managed on 5 in the 2nd and 13 total for the 1st two.
Then the Rangers go wild (and the Saints keep marching in) to the tune of 15 (R) and 10 (S) SOGs in the 3rd. And the goalies begin to miss a few. In fact, they both miss 3 shots in the 3rd as St. Clair Shores and CapJack each score 3 times.Stevens gets the Saints on the board first, but Russell scores a tying PP goal with 6 minutes left. Then Markwart comes right back for the Saints to regain the lead less than 30 seconds later. AH, but the home team figures out Barrasso a couple of minutes later and scores twice – DeBlois and Sittler, and the Rangers take a 3-2 lead with 2 1/2 to go. But those Saints pull Barrasso and with 33 seconds left Francis beats Weeks to tie the game 3-3 and that’s how regulation ends.Neither team wants a tie and they and they both have their chances in OT – but it was Sittler scoring his 2nd goal halfway through the OT period that settled the score, 4-3 CapJack!STARS:
1. CAP – Sittler 2 goals, 1 assist
2. SCS – Francis 1 goal, 1 assist
3. SCS – Stevens 1 goal, 1 assist

Charlotte Dynamo
WEEKLY PREVIEW: It’s been a tale of two seasons for Charlotte which has, to ownership’s delight, thrust itself into a playoff race for the first time in franchise history. After winning just six games of the first 25 that were played (6-15-4), the Dynamo have played championship-caliber hockey ever since, going 23-12-1, with nearly a quarter of the season still left. Ironically, the turnaround came after a fire sale that shipped off an 8+ defenseman (Bill Hajt) and a HOF center very much still in top form (Gil Perreault) in exchange for a couple of second-round draft picks that will be helpful for future building. Entering this week (three games on the road and one hosting Pittsburgh) Charlotte was just six points out of the final playoff spot in the East, behind St. Clair Shores, with a game in hand.
GAME #1 – VISITING TEAM: Pittsburgh Spirit
GAME #1: PITTSBURGH SPIRIT VS. CHARLOTTE DYNAMO A lightning-fast start enabled the Dynamo to hold serve in its only home game of this week and defeat Pittsburgh despite just 22 shots on net 5-1. Charlotte broke out of the gates early: a tripping penalty by Pittsburgh left-winger Louis Sleigher just 48 seconds into the game led to a power-play where Charlie Simmer cashed in a moment later on assists from Dale Hawerchuk and Thomas Erikkson. Just a minute later, 2:46 of the opening period, Glenn Anderson followed up with what proved to be the game-winning goal that put the Dynamo ahead 2-0.

Wilf Paiement scored Pittsburgh’s only goal of the night with 8:24 in the first period to give the Spirit some hope, but then Charlotte’s Dave Poulin answered with two power-play goals: one with just 31 seconds left in the first and another 13:10 into the second period. Hawerchuk closed the scoring on a power-play goal with 3:42 left in the second period.

Alan Bester, a revelation in the nets for the Dynamo this season, ensured Pittsburgh did not get back in the game and stood on his head the entire contest with 42 saves.

Three stars (all Charlotte):
1. Poulin 2 power-play goals
2. Bester 42 saves
3. Hawerchuk, 1 G and 2 assists

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Charlotte wins its lone home game and it was anxiously awaiting results as of this writing of three critical road games that would determine if it was to make a move in the playoff race or slip back.
Michigan Stags
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Ohio and Mackinac Island pay a visit to Cobo Arena
GAME #1: OHIO LEGENDS VS. MICHIGAN STAGS Playing without captain Mark Messier, the Stags nonetheless manage to come up with a 5-2 win. Sylvain Turgeon spearheaded the Michigan attack with 2G+1A.
GAME #2: MACKINAC ISLAND MOOSE VS. MICHIGAN STAGS Eddie Mio got the start in goal against the Moose and he was pathetic, surrendering 8 goals on 25 shots. Paul MacLean had a pair for Mackinac Island. The only bright spots for the Stags were 2 more goals by John Ogrodnick and rookie call-up Gary Leeman got an assist, his first MWOTHL point.
WEEKLY SUMMARY: A win and a loss in what has been a relatively respectable initial season so far.
Texas Brahmas
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Andes is the lone game in Fort Worth this week, as the teams battle for 2nd in the Smythe (yeah!), 25 points out of first (boo!)
GAME #1: ANDES MOUNTAINEERS VS. TEXAS BRAHMAS A bad day in the Lone Star State. Texas starts strong on a goal by Rota, but Gilmour and Smyl give Andes a 2-1 lead after 2. Andreychuk ties it, but McEwen gives Andes the lead and the win, 3-2. Lots of fights. Lots of penalties, including 2 on my goalie.

3 Stars

1. Gilmour (AND) 1G, 1A
2. McEwan (AND) 1G
3. Andreychuk (TEX) 1G, 1A

WEEKLY SUMMARY: About the same as the rest of the season. When is the draft?
Chicago Underground
WEEKLY PREVIEW: The Chicago Underground play host to the Ohio Legends in a non-divisional game.
GAME #1: OHIO LEGENDS VS. CHICAGO UNDERGROUND OHIO 6, CHI 5

Chicago raced out to a 2-0 first-period lead. Then, all hell broke loose.

An eight-goal second-period explosion saw Ohio score the first three goals of the frame, to take its first lead of the game. The Underground responded with three unanswered goals to re-take a two-goal lead. The Legends then scored the last two goals of the stanza to knot the scores at five.

A goal drought then ensued and it wasn’t until only 16 seconds remained that Tony Tanti tallied his second goal of the night to give Ohio the 6-5 win.

Tanti finished the night with two goals and an assist for three points for Ohio, while Hannu Virta dished off three assists for Chicago. John Anderson and Mike Bossy each had a goal and an assist for Chicago.

Pat Riggin stopped 24 shots for the win, while Bob Froese turned away 34 in the defeat.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Chicago drops a hard-fought game with Ohio.
Ohio Legends
WEEKLY PREVIEW: The Ohio Legends welcome two Adams Division heavyweights in Mackinac Island and Saint Clair Shores to town this week.
GAME #1: MACKINAC ISLAND MOOSE VS. OHIO LEGENDS MIM 4, Ohio 2

Ohio raced to a 2-0 lead early in the second period before a pair of Paul MacLean goals put the Moose ahead to stay and Jari Kurri closed it out for the 4-2 victory.

Rollie Melanson and Pat Riggin each made 27 saves in the contest.

With the win, Mackinac Island takes an eight-point lead over Ohio for the division lead.

GAME #2: SAINT CLAIR SHORES SAINTS VS. OHIO LEGENDS Ohio 4, SCS 2

Tim Kerr’s third-period goal near the midway point of the third period was the winning margin in the 4-2 win for Ohio over Saint Clair Shores. Doug Jarvis scored an empty-net goal with 21 seconds remaining to provide the final margin.

Tom McCarthy scored a pair of goals in a losing effort, while Tony Tanti had a goal and an assist for the winners. The story of the game was the power play battle, as Ohio had eight opportunities (netting one), while Saint Clair Shores had four. The Legends had the only four power plays of the third period.

The Legends won the shots battle, 35-17, while the Saints controlled 31 of the 58 faceoffs.

Mike Liut stopped 15 shots for his 21st win. Tom Barrasso re-routed 31 shots in a Herculean effort in the defeat.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Ohio escapes the week with a split against the other two teams fighting for playoff spots with it.
Pittsburgh Spirit
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Hot dogs and beer… life is good!
GAME #1: CHARLESTOWN CHIEFS VS. PITTSBURGH SPIRIT The not-so-important Big Brotherly Brawl (TM) can still be entertaining… but the Spirit, who has been pretty horrible all season, all of a sudden are winning some games as they pull out the win against the Chiefs 6-3.

Only one fight? Disappointed in the Chiefs.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: One game, one unexpected win! See!? We’re not tanking on purpose for the Lemieux Sweepstakes! Honest!!! 😉
Dallas Drakes
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Dallas has three home games and needs to make adjustments to halt the slide, will it work
GAME #1: NEW CASTLE DUCKS VS. DALLAS DRAKES The division-leading Ducks come to town after waxing the Drakes last week. Rod Langway gets the Drakes on the board :27 seconds in through a screen beating Billy Smith. The first period was all Drakes on goals for Sinisalo and Dionne to send the Drakes to the dressing room up 3-0. Glen Hanlon stopped shot after shot as the loaded Ducks pour it on, but Mark Hardy pinches in deep and sets up a 2 on 1 and Greg Gilbert snaps it past Smith for a 4-0 lead. Glen Hanlon stars in this game as the shutout stayed live until Bob Manno beats Hanlon stick side as the Drakes win 4-1
GAME #2: CHICAGO UNDERGROUND VS. DALLAS DRAKES Fire wagon hockey is what this game was all about……Chicago goes up 3-116:15 into the game with Rick Vaive scoring twice. The Drakes roar back with 4 unanswered goals for the Drakes to go up 5-3. They go back and forth, and the Drakes lead 7-5 late in the third but the Underground respond twice to tie it up 7-7. and then the goalies finally show up…….until Rod Langway breaks the tie in overtime.
GAME #3: SYRACUSE BULLDOGS VS. DALLAS DRAKES This game looked like an early 2000’s game. Greg Millen and Glen Hanlon dominated in this game as the Drakes take a 1-0 late in the first as Rob Ramage blows one by Millen. The Bulldogs finally solve Hanlon in the second as Brian Bellows scores in the first minute to tie the game. The game stayed tied until midway through the third until Illka Sinisalo puts the Drakes up with the game-winner 2-1
WEEKLY SUMMARY: Three strong ones at home.
Portland Sasquatch
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Portland hosts Andes and Mackinac Island
GAME #1: ANDES MOUNTAINEERS VS. PORTLAND SASQUATCH Portland’s Lawton (12) opens the scoring in the 2nd period but Fox (4) responds with a goal of his own for the Mountaineers. The 2nd period saw the Moose score 55 seconds into the period on a goal from Kurri (55) but Gretzky (62) got his second goal of the game and was followed by a goal from Hindmarch (1) on a power play to take a 4-2 lead
