Quebec City Le Blue

Chicago Underground
Weekly Preview: Chicago with two home games hopes to not disappoint the fans of the Windy City. But that seems like a very large task to take on.
St. Clair Shores Saints @ Chicago Underground The two teams don’t like each other for some reason. A back & forth affair for most of the game was interrupted for 7 minutes during a mini-brawl when 3 separate fights broke out at the 9:09 mark of the second period.

Errol Thompson had 4 Goals for St. Clair Shores. Peter McNab won 16 Face Offs, Markus Mattsson had 37 Save for Chicago.

Final Score: St. Clair Shores 4 – Chicago 3

Saint Croix Falls Lumberjacks @ Chicago Underground Saint Croix Falls took the lead in the 2nd Period & holds on to win it.

Final Score: Saint Crois Falls 4 – Chicago 2

Weekly Summary: Chicago suffers two heart wrenching losses this week at home. The Draft position for the 1980-1981 MWOTHL Season is moving up the Draft Board.

Syracuse Bulldogs
Weekly Preview: 2 home games against Norris rivals
Philadelphia Firebirds @ Syracuse Bulldogs Philly and Syracuse tie 4-4. It’s like kissing your sister.
Stars 1. Bridgeman
2. Lee
3. Boldirev
Chicago Underground @ Syracuse Bulldogs An empty net goal by Chicago ties it up at 4.
Stars 1. Propp
2. Foster
3. Giles
Weekly Summary: 2 division games. 2 4-4 ties

Saskatoon Cycle
Weekly Preview: SASK has two home games versus a fine hockey town in San Diego and against Charlestown a team with which the Cyclones are fighting for divisional scraps.
San Diego Mariners @ Saskatoon Cyclone Very few surprises in this game Saskatoon does pretty much nothing without Gretzky on the ice (he gets a goal and two assists) and the piece of crap game continues to let you know a goal is coming before the shot is even taken … something that happened a lot in this game as the Mariners win 7-4.
Charlestown Chiefs @ Saskatoon Cyclone Saskatoon continues to go through the motions with this spectacular season making it close but losing thanks to a Chiefs goal with a minute left in the game. Gretzky gets two goals and the rest of the assholes skate around like they’re allergic to the puck.
Weekly Summary: A shocker with Saskatoon dropping both games.

Brooklyn Harbor Rats
Weekly Preview: Two at home against the Smythe division, two on the road in the tough Patrick. We’ll be watching for the road scores.
Silk City Whales @ Brooklyn Harbor Rats Rats score the first 2 goals but the Whales come back with 5 unanswered goals to win just their 5th game of the season. Silk City likes facing their cousin’s team, they are now 3-0 against Brooklyn.
Vermont Foresters @ Brooklyn Harbor Rats Jack Valiquette snaps a 3rd period tie with his 12th of the season, then sets up Bob Miller for the insurance score as Brooklyn earns a tough, 5-3 win over Vermont.
Weekly Summary: A split at home

Philadelphia Firebirds
Weekly Summary:  The Firebirds go 1 & 1 this week at home.

CapJack Rangers
Weekly Preview: The Rangers have been climbing defensive categories and holding their own in scoring, slipping a bit, but not too much. This week they host two games – both against division leaders: Vermont of the Smythe and Pittsburgh of their own Patrick division.
Vermont Foresters @ CapJack Rangers CapJack wanted this one and came out firing and smoothering, outshooting the Tree guys 14-3 in the first period. And looking at the scoreboard their plan was working. 3-1 after the first. Goals by Shutt, Douglas, and Esposito all this before Vail tallied with a minute and a half to go (PP Hart was in for tripping). Then the 2nd period starts and LaPointe goes in the sin bin for cross-checking and Nilsson gets a PP goal to make it 3-2 CapJack. But the Rangers got their own PP goal from Cloutier when Saleski was nabbed for slashing. 2nd period ends with no more scoring and a 4-2 Ranger lead.
3rd period opens and the Foresters get and even strength goal, their 1st and last of that kind as Nilsson tallies for the 2nd time. But Robinson (on a goal scoring tear of late) gets a PP goal for the Rangers that proves to be the game winnner as Lukowich gets a PP goal in the final three minutes. The Rangers withstand a final minute of the extra attacker (seemed to only work when there was a penalty). Rangers win 5-4.
CapJack was very sloppy giving Vermont 8 power play opportunities – the converted on three. The Rangers converted on 2 or 3.
STARS:
1. VER – Nilsson 2 goals, 1 assist
2. CAP – Robinson 1 goal, 2 assists (GWG)
3. CAP – Esposito 1 goal, 1 assist
Notables: CAP Trottier 19 faceoffs won; Gare – 12 Penalty minutes
Pittsburgh Spirit @ CapJack Rangers Can CapJack make a dent in the Spirit’s lead. Oh they tried, they put a Cap on their offense limiting them to 20 shots during the game, but they did make a mistake early on when Esposito was called for hooking. Houle made the Rangers pay 6 minutes into the game for a PP goal. The 10 shots in the 1st for Pittsburg equaled their total output for periods 2 and 3 – and they couldn’t get anymore biscuits in the baskets. Bouchard and the defense were stellar.
CapJack meanwhile peppered the Spirit’s netminder, Glenn Resch, for 36 shots and 55 seconds into the 2nd period, Larry (I’m on a goal scoring binge) got one past Resch. BUT that was the only one they got past him as the game ends in a 1-1 tie. Nothing gained by CapJack in the quest to catch the Spirit.
STARS:
1. PIT – Resch 35 saves
2. CAP – Robinson 1 goal
3. PIT – Houle 1 goal
Weekly Summary: Rangers 1-0-1 against 2 of the top 3 teams in the league! Not too shabby, would have preferred the win be against Pittsburgh, but we’ll take what we got and be happy (sort of).

Charlestown Chiefs
Weekly Preview: There’s a sense of tension in Charlestown as Social Services, the Moral Majority, and the PMRC have been snooping around with all of the chatter of sister-kissing going on around town. Can the Chiefs play through the distractions?
Pittsburgh Spirit @ Charlestown Chiefs The Battle of the Brothers ™ isn’t much of a battle at all. Apparently Pittsburgh didn’t get the memo that brotherly contests are supposed to consist of pushing, shoving, and a little wrestling. Instead, the Spirit comes to town and punches their brother in the mouth 6 times to embarrass the home team in front of Tipper Gore. Lanny McDonald scores a pair of goals and is given the key to the city after the 6-3 massacre.

CapJack Rangers @ Charlestown Chiefs The Chiefs needed about a week’s worth of rest after the previous butchering, but unfortunately they are forced to take the ice the next evening against CapJack. They’re nothing if not opportunists, and they feast on Eddie Mio’s .818 save percentage en route to a 4-3 victory. Somehow Ray Bourque is a -4 and Bruce Maxwell is a +2.

Mackinac Island Moose
Weekly Preview: The Moose host Norris Division Leader Syracuse (15-11-7) and division foe Biloxi (12-13-7).
Syracuse Bulldogs @ Mackinac Island Moose Syracuse 4, Moose 2 – The Golden Jet starts scoring for the home team, followed by teammate Boutette for a 2-0 lead early in the 2nd. After that its all Bulldogs with goals by Baxter, Fraser, Boldirev and Higgins.

Weekly Summary: After the Hull goal in the first game, not much to cheer about. Moose lose both games.
Dion pitches a shutout for the visiting Biloxi Blades is the performer of the week.

Silk City Whales
Weekly Preview: Silk City hosts playoff contenders Saskatoon and Silk City this week as the offense tries to get going and provide some breathing room for Whales goalies.
Saskatoon Cyclone @ Silk City Whales Hot shot youngster Gretzky comes to town and does not disappoint, scoring two goals in Saskatoon’s 309 win over Silk City.

1st Star – Don Edwards, SAS – 40 saves
2nd Star – Wayne Gretzky, SAS – 2 goals

San Diego Mariners @ Silk City Whales Silk City blows third period lead as San Diego scores three unanswered goals to beat the Whales 4-2.

2nd Star -Gerry Cheevers, SDM – 36 saves
3rd Star – Paul Holmgren, SDM – goal

Weekly Summary: Whales drop two more home games this week, including one in which they held a rare third period lead.

Vermont Foresters
Weekly Preview: vermont hosts division rivals charlestown and saskatoon looking to get back on track after dropping both home games last week.
Charlestown Chiefs @ Vermont Foresters ron grahame gets a last second surprise start for vermont in this game and has perhaps his best game of the year. mark howe scores on the foresters 1st shot of the game and the the chiefs and foresters alternate goals for the first 2 periods with paiement getting a hat trick for the visitors. the decisive 3rd period saw 2 early ppg for the home team and the 5-3 final score. charlestown chiefed it up trying to intimidate the foresters and it didnt work as vermont went 3-7 on the powerplay using a balanced attack with 5 different players scoring goals and dale mccourt adding 3 assists. linesman assisted on all 3 chief goals.
Saskatoon Cyclone @ Vermont Foresters the great one leads the cyclone into vermont and runs into a buzzsaw of foresters. vermont dominated this game in every area. 51 to 24 in sog, 83 to 34 in shot attempts, 32 to 19 in hits, 6 to 1 in powerplays, and wayne gretzky held without a point. 7-1 victory for vermont?? NO! a baffling, frustrating, surprising tie (well for the league leading 10th tie) how could vermont manage to bungle this game? first, don edwards made 49 saves. second, mike foligno gets into a fight with rick vaive early in the 1st period and both get a game misconduct for their efforts. third, vermont dressed stan mikita as 4th line rw just to take faceoffs against gretzky in the defensive zone, the old guy cant skate so much anymore, leaving them very shorthanded on the right side. fourth, holding a 2-1 lead with 11 minutes left and get a 5 minute powerplay, blow the lead giving up a shorthanded goal less then a minute in, then get a full 2 minute 5 on 3 when the cyclone get another player sent off and still dont manage to score.
the leagues top 3 scorers playing and all 3 held without a point in a 2-2 draw.
Weekly Summary: another week, another frustrating tie for vermont. at least there was a victory to go with it. mccourt had 4 assists, mark howe a goal and 2 assists and morris lukowich 2 goals.

Pittsburgh Spirit
Weekly Preview: The 1st place Spirit host Brooklyn and Silk City.
Brooklyn Harbor Rats @ Pittsburgh Spirit Spirit dominate the game but fall behind 3-1 in the 3rd. They pull within 1 with a shot from the point by Redmond. Then tie the game on the PP with MacLeish scoring his 16th.

This one ends in a tie 3-3

Silk City Whales @ Pittsburgh Spirit Spirit are never really challenged, but don’t get many shots off themselves. Difference is Baker stopped 17 of 18 shots and Sauve stopped 18 of 23 shots as Pittsburgh skates to a 5-1 victory.
Weekly Summary: A win and a tie. Should hopefully be enough to maintain 1st place, depending on how they fair on the road.

Mackinac Island Moose @ St. Clair Shores Saints A wild scoring affair in St. Clair Shores…..Lever and Sheppard got on board first for the Moose.
